We had the good fortune of connecting with Lina Jurgutyte and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lina, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I don’t think there’s a one answer to “how to know”. And it is definitely not always logically explained. Sometimes I even think that in order to keep going we have to give up on certain things and to give up on our dream/goal/idea sometimes feels like we have to keep going, nevertheless. I rely on my intuitive qualities, as I, by nature, am an intuitive/creative person. It is a life long practice, as it requires tremendous trust. The key for me is knowing, that I am not in control of things, especially things that bring disappointment, anger, frustration, suffering, destruction. Believing that things aren’t the way they should be, only serves disappointment and fear and could make you give up for no reason. Nothing from outside is a cause of my disappointment. The world is neutral. The world doesn’t need saving, it just needs to be loved. This very realization makes me keep going and never give up. To make it more clear – I can definitely give up on some goals, desires, ideas, etc, that do not serve my highest good and the highest good of others, as long as I keep going from the love within. Eventually this “keep going” becomes a natural way of being and serving.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe my art story started when I started to look at my body as a vessel of my soul’s expression. Then experiences came with awareness of it. What I have noticed, that the “forms of art” started to show up when I was in the most darkest moments of my life. Dance and nature, as expressions of beauty and connection, were my solace since the childhood. Later in life I discovered poetry and drawing. Again, it came naturally while I was suffering from separation (separation from mySelf). It doesn’t matter in what form or medium my art showed up, it was very clear, that it was my soul speaking and guiding. It became my spiritual practice of belonging. As I followed this inner guidance, even if it didn’t make much sense most of the time, I discovered people, groups, organizations that helped me to bring this all together into the embodiment of body/mind/soul creative expression practice/therapy.
As from my deep personal journey and witnessing others in these practices, I truly believe that through artistic expression we can bring out so many stories we carry within individually and collectively and create space for healing, compassion, communication, relatedness and … for new stories to evolve out of the experience.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am not the one who goes to restaurants, bars, fun places, so I cannot be a guide of that. First of all, my go to place is the ocean, my place for relaxation, rewind, meditation, spiritual and mental purification, physical activity, creative expression, like movement, poetry writing, prayer …
Where to eat? I love to cook and surprise my guests with delicious and nourishing meals. As for a place to eat – I like The Stage, new age indian cuisine or Christopher’s Kitchen for healthy vegetarian meals. I also love local little food trucks coming more and more into recognition. I follow any local events that have to do with gathering together in music, singing, dance, playing instruments or celebrating the community ceremonial ways, like honoring water, plants, indigenous cultures. Every Sunday we have sunrise meditations at my town, where people come and after join together for a coffee at the local coffee shop. There’s my favorite coffee shop in Tequesta, called Perk Coffee House. What is nice, you get to meet interesting and exciting people in all of those places.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout is that every single person I have met in my life has contributed to my life’s journey and my success. If I have to say about love and encouragement of others, – hands down my two daughters, Gabriele and Kotryna (31 and 28). I brought them to America as a single mother, when they were only 5 and 2 years old. Since then, they helped me and supported me to write a book of my Life, which I carry within my heart and soul. Till this day they keep encouraging me and therefore they are encouraging themselves. I love seeing the ripple affect of love, trust, hope and faith.
