We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I actually never intended to own my own business. I was working as a full time Esthetician and Massage Therapist for the last 15 years, in luxury spas and salons. It wasn’t until I met my now husband, who created a skincare line specifically for me to use for my sensitive skin and rosacea, that we realized we had a product to share with my clients and the world. After just a few weeks of using these products, my skin calmed, cleared, and was the best it ever looked. I have suffered from skin sensitives for many years, and was fed up with trying so many different products promising to calm my skin, with no results. My husband has MD and microbiology degrees, and experience working in labs improving skincare formulations. After researching all of the top skincare brands, both medical and luxury, the common irritating ingredients he was finding was the preservatives used in the products. Even in the smallest amounts, preservatives can irritate sensitive skin, and cause imbalance in the body. Of course skincare needs some sort of preservatives to keep from going bad, such as growing mold and bacteria. He discovered that skincare without preservatives can last up to three months without expiring. This brought us to our current business model of providing a monthly subscription plan for our customers to receive fresh products every month directly to their home. By not selling our products to third parties, like storefronts and spas, there is no time spent in a warehouse or on a shelf.
I transitioned from working for other people, to opening my own salon suite where I was on my own for the first time, to now running Skin at Peace full-time from home. It has been a journey to entrepreneurship, but I love it so much I don’t think I could ever work for someone else again.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Skin at Peace is a skincare brand for people with sensitive skin, and all skin types. We provide a simple to use, four product set, that only requires 2 minutes in the morning and evening. Skin at Peace is vegan, cruelty-free, sulfate & paraben-free, and most of all, preservative-free. This is unheard of in the skincare industry because most products need to be effective for many months, even years before expiring. By offering a direct to customer, monthly subscription-based business model, we can send the four product kit fresh each month, with the date made stamped on it. We suggest using it before 90 days, or throwing it away. The bottles are glass and recyclable. We use active ingredients such a s L-ascorbic acid and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, which are two strands of vitamin C. These ingredients along with others, oxidize and lose efficacy very rapidly when exposed to air and light. To ensure Skin at Peace is giving the maximum results possible in lightening hyper-pigmentation, evening skin tone, and calming redness, these active ingredients need to be fresh as possible. With our monthly box subscription, we can guarantee that. We are very excited to bring a new standard of clean skincare to the industry, and raising the bar. We want everyone to be able to benefit from anti-aging ingredients previously thought to be too harsh. It isn’t the vitamin and plant ingredients irritating skin, it is the added preservatives and fillers that are causing imbalance. Skin at Peace provides raw ingredients in their purest form, to create lasting results and change in the skin. The road to where Skin at Peace is today was not easy. We made many formula improvements, packaging changes, and lab location changes, but we are now settled and thriving in West Palm Beach, Florida. We plan to keep growing, learning and improving, and always providing total transparency.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love the Jupiter dog beach, we have two dogs so we always start there. Howley’s for brunch in West Palm Beach, Elisabetta’s in WPB or Delray Beach for dinner, Fort Lauderdale for boating and the beach, and Miami for the nightlife!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I first decided to start Skin at Peace as a side gig, I had no idea how to run a business or social media for business. One of my best skincare clients and now friend, Mari Draughon, had a business coaching business. Hiring her to do our website, logo, brand identity, and coaching, was absolutely essential to starting the business. Without her help and wealth of knowledge, there is no way I would be where I am today.
