We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Lamchick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsey, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work-life balance has transformed profoundly throughout my journey, and it’s been shaped by both my professional ambitions and my deep commitment to my family. As a top-producing realtor—ranking in the top 1.5% nationwide—I’ve always aimed for excellence in my career. But being a hands-on mom has always been even more important to me. I’ve been the room mom for all my kids, including this year for my youngest who just started kindergarten. Those moments in the classroom, connecting with my children and their friends, have been some of the most rewarding experiences.
When I became a mother in 2009, I had to find a way to juggle being a full-time attorney and a new mom. As I navigated the early years with my twins, I learned quickly how to manage my time effectively while always prioritizing my family. The challenges of balancing school events, playdates, and my legal career were significant, but I thrived on the chaos. Until I didn’t. In 2012, I left the Chicago-based law firm to become of counsel at Lamchick Law Group, and a realtor at Douglas Elliman. The hope was that I would have more flexibility over my schedule and find a better work and home life balance.
Then came 2020, when the pandemic sparked a massive wave of relocations to Florida. My real estate career exploded, and I found myself working around the clock. I was working tirelessly to help clients navigate the booming market. It was exhilarating but also overwhelming, and I found my work-life balance tipping once again.
When I launched my own brokerage, The Edit, in May 2023, I faced a new set of challenges. Building a brand while managing my real estate career, and busy family life was demanding. I had to be all in, but it sometimes felt like I was losing sight of that balance I valued so much.
Everything changed in early 2024 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. That was a wake-up call and a major turning point for me. It forced me to narrow my circle and concentrate on what truly mattered—my family and my well-being. Suddenly, my health was the only priority. Nothing else mattered as much and I had to rethink and adjust how I approached everything. I hired a director of operations to manage the brokerage and the day-to-day operations, which allowed me to step back, fighting for my life and spending my time focusing on myself, my treatment and especially my family. While I fought my battle, I focused on being present for my kids and helping them navigate their feelings about having a mom with cancer. I wanted them to feel secure and loved, even in the midst of uncertainty.
Now that I’m cancer-free, I’ve come to appreciate a slower, more intentional pace of life. I’ve learned to set boundaries and say no to certain obligations. I’ve learned that balance is not just about managing time but also about prioritizing love, health, and well-being. I am focused on being able to delegate more, so that I can have more time for my family and the things that matter most. In September, I started a non-profit, Project Disco Ball. Our aim is to spread light and bring joy to cancer patients by decorating infusion rooms with disco balls and holiday decor, as well as giving gift bags of chemo comfort essentials to patients while they are receiving their infusions. This year will will be decorating Miami Cancer Institute Infusion’s Floor for the holidays. It’s again an overwhelming challenge to balance my growing career, my family commitments, and this new initiative, but I believe it’s vital.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At The Edit, we are dedicated to personally curating real estate experiences that align with our clients’ unique needs, goals, and lifestyles. What sets us apart is our holistic approach; we combine expertise in real estate, legal matters, relocation, and interior design to offer an unparalleled level of service. When you invite us on your journey, we guide you every step of the way—providing support that goes far beyond just the transaction.
I’m particularly proud of the culture we’ve created at The Edit. Our commitment to inclusivity and refinement means that we curate a diverse portfolio of properties, ensuring there’s something exceptional for everyone—regardless of budget or life stage. Whether it’s helping a first-time homebuyer, a luxury property seller, or someone relocating to the area, our goal is to make every client feel at home from the moment they reach out.
Getting to this point has not been easy. I faced numerous challenges while launching my own business, especially while juggling my role as a full-time realtor and a mother of three. The past year, in particular, brought unexpected trials with my breast cancer diagnosis. During this time, I learned the importance of resilience, adaptability, and the value of a strong support system. Leaning on my family and my team allowed me to navigate those tough moments and emerge stronger.
The lessons I’ve learned are invaluable: success is not just about closing deals; it’s about building lasting relationships and creating a community. I want the world to know that The Edit is committed to excellence, integrity, and personalized service. We pride ourselves on our meticulous attention to detail and a deep understanding of our local markets. Our mission is to exceed expectations in every interaction, ensuring that each client feels valued and supported throughout their real estate journey.
Ultimately, I’m excited about the future of The Edit and the opportunity to continue serving our clients with excellence. Each property has its own story, and we’re here to help you find the perfect chapter in yours.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had an out-of-town friend visit Miami for two days, I’d make sure they experience the very best of what the city has to offer, from our vibrant neighborhoods to our stunning beaches.
We’d start the morning with a wellness focus – perhaps a yoga class on the beach at sunrise or a stroll through South Pointe Park to take in the ocean views. Miami is all about outdoor living, so I’d want them to soak up the sunshine. After that, we could head to Pura Vida for a healthy, energizing breakfast – their açaí bowls are perfect after a workout. Or if we are in the Pinecrest area, we child go to Erni’s for açaí bowls.
For the day, I’d plan a mix of relaxation and exploration. I’d take them to Key Biscayne for some quiet time on the beach – it’s less crowded and has that natural, serene vibe. If they’re more adventurous, we could rent bikes and explore the area. If they’re into water sports, we could go paddleboarding, wakeboarding or even rent a boat for a day on the bay.
For lunch, we’d stop at one of my favorite restaurants in the Design District, Mandolin Aegean Bistro, that offers an incredible menu with a focus on fresh, Mediterranean-style dishes. Plus, the vibe in the Design District is a mix of art, fashion, and great food – perfect for a leisurely afternoon of people-watching or even some shopping.
In the afternoon, I’d take them to explore Wynwood to check out the street art and galleries. Then we could head to the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, shopping in Bal Harbor or take a quick spa break at The Standard, where they could experience Miami’s focus on health and wellness with a spa treatment, the coed spa, or a dip in the infinity pool.
Dinner would definitely be something special – I’d make a reservation at Carbone in South Beach for a mix of world-class cuisine and classic Miami energy, or try something from my never ending listing of MUST TRY new restaurants. And, if they’re up for it, we could end the night with a cocktail at one of the rooftop bars in Brickell or Coconut Grove to take in the Miami skyline.
On day two, we’d start with a visit to the farmer’s market at Pinecrest Gardens for fresh produce and artisanal treats, followed by brunch. Then, it’s back to the beach – we could go to Soho Beach House, to spend the day at the beach, spa and eat at one of the restaurants there or order to our chaises, depending on their vibe.
Ultimately, I’d aim for a balance of wellness, fun, and relaxation that showcases Miami’s incredible lifestyle. The city is a destination for both vibrant social experiences and rejuvenation, which is why so many people want to call it home!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My success and where I am in life is deeply rooted in the unwavering support of my incredibly proud husband, Ryan. He constantly pushes me to my limits, encouraging me to take risks and focus on what I believe in.
Starting my own real estate company has been a tremendous undertaking—essentially a full-time job on top of my work as a realtor, all while managing my clients’ needs. If it weren’t for Ryan stepping up to handle our three kids and their busy schedules, I honestly don’t know how I would have managed it all. His love and motivation have been instrumental in my achievements.
This past year has been especially challenging due to my cancer diagnosis, and Ryan was by my side every step of the way. He attended every appointment, every chemo infusion, and was such an integral part of my journey.
I am beyond thankful for him, not just for his support during my health struggles, but for being my rock in all aspects of life. I’m excited to continue living life to the fullest with him and our family by my side.
