We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindy Nowak and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindy, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Connect with my network Scheduling strategic one to ones with people inside and outside my network by phone or video has been really beneficial for Up in a Day. It’s a great opportunity to practice delivering our pitch as well as to get referrals, feedback on our products and services, and of course to keep in touch with friends and former colleagues… an important thing when so many of us are working from home.
Ongoing learning for business growth
In any industry, it’s important to keep a finger on the pulse of trends, news, and insights while also reading relevant books specific to a topic I’m looking to grow and develop in. Two books that have benefited Up in a Day’s business development are The E-Myth by Michael E. Gerber and Traction by Gino Wickman.
Make a checklist
I’m a checklist kind of woman so getting in the habit of breaking down my personal to-dos into a checklist format keeps me focused, organized and stress-free. I start by making a weekly to-do checklist, then break that down to each day of the week. I get so much done and I can walk away from my desk at the end of the day and leave it all behind so I can spend time with my family.
Consistent bed time
I’m one of those people that needs at least eight hours of sleep per night so making a point to go to bed on time at the same time every night is very crucial for me. A good night’s rest is a healthy mind and body.
Exercise
I exercise at least four times a week with a mix of cardio and yoga. It keeps me motivated, positive, and happy!
What should our readers know about your business?
I am the founder of Up in a Day. We build websites for busy business owners who need great websites built quickly, on budget, and with minimal effort. And we do it in a day. We cater to small business owners and entrepreneurs who have struggled to find a web agency they can afford and who’s turn around time is fast and efficient.
I am most proud of how incredibly happy we make our customers! A large percentage of people come to us with a bad website that their friend or cousin designed and didn’t optimize or with a poorly built website they paid too much for. This is the very reason I started Up in a Day. In my former agency, we kept getting individuals coming to us asking for proposals to build elaborate websites that they really didn’t need only to find they couldn’t afford it. And that’s how and why Up in a Day was born. We help small businesses get their websites up and running quickly, affordably, and with minimal effort on their side.
Up in a Day is a new-to-market product so in the initial phase of launching, it was crucial that my team and I understood AND stood true to who we are, what we offer, who it’s for, who it’s not for, how it’s done, and most importantly, how we communicate this message clearly to our audience. The Up in a Day client turn around time is very transactional. I designed a proprietary process that allows my team to build Squarespace websites in one day so that at the end of the day, the customer leaves with a fully optimized, beautifully branded website that is easy to manage on their end. And if they’re too busy with their day to day business, we have a subscription service that helps them manage their site.
One lesson I learned along the way was that making time for myself is very important. To step away from the business whether it be a long walk in the middle of the day or taking a morning at the beach, allows me to come back and see the business from the outside with fresh perspectives. Resting is a true investment in well-being and a source of energy. And taking breaks are not a distraction but a chance to refocus attention and creativity.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the outdoors so when friends come to visit, I usually follow this itinerary:
Morning coffees on our balcony. We live in Miami Beach on the 33rd story of a building facing the city and the views from morning til night are endless.
After breakfast, we’d grab our beach gear, jump on Citibikes, and head down to South of 5th for some beach time or we’d head up on the bike path for a beautiful scenic tour.
I have so many favorite lunch spots and Call Me Gaby is one of them so we’d probably head there for salads and pizza.
In the late afternoon. we’d head over to Coconut Grove. Outside of South Beach, Coconut Grove is my favorite neighborhood in the US. It has a special place in my heart because I grew up coming here to visit family. There are SO many amazing restaurants. My very favorite being Le Bouchon Du Grove (I’m obsessed with French cuisine). Dinner would be followed by cocktails at Mr. C.
Other days would be filled with kayaking Biscayne Bay with our snorkels and masks. The water is truly incredible – it’s filled with beautiful wild life with spotted eagle rays, manatee, dolphins and parrot fish.
I’d take them to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens for a walking tour and a glass of wine at their cafe. It’s so peaceful here and the collection of plant and tree species is incredible. You feel like you’re in a different country.
During the week, we’d of course head over to the The Standard Hotel on the Venetian Islands for happy hour.
If I could talk my friend into it, we’d volunteer with Miami Waterkeeper for a beach or bay cleanup. This organization has so much influence in Miami-Dade and truly makes and impact for us all.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am a part of several great entrepreneur and business groups here in Miami and they have played a large role in Up in a Day’s successes but my business coach has been absolutely vital for my personal growth as a founder as well as for the strategic and exponential growth of the business. He has guided me with the tools and knowledge I need as a leader as well as pushing me to get out of my comfort zone in order to think outside the box and execute new strategies and systems that ultimately have proven amazing successes for Up in a Day. This coach is also my husband who’s expertise is helping entrepreneurs take their businesses from local to national so I get the best of both worlds. When it comes to discussing the business he is unbiased, professional and strategic while being very conscious and supportive of my wellbeing and personal growth. He’s a true mentor. I feel very fortunate to have an entrepreneur coach and life partner rolled into one.
