We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Semoy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My balance has changed over time because before I thought that I needed to be super woman in order to be successful. Eventually I realized that if I took proper care of myself I would be better equipped to help others. This is where I implemented a morning and evening routine and this helped my life tremendously. I am in better control of my days and how I am able to manage with the tasks and responsibilities of my life.

Some form of balance is important but it is not 50/50 in my humble opinion. I believe that it truly depends on the season of life that you are in. There are times when the season may require more time spent on family and personal things and there are times when your career may require more time and attention as long as this is properly communicated.

I strongly believe in communication and therefore I need to be in constant communication with all parties involved based on the season of life that I may be in.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been a mortgage loan originator for over 23 years. I believe this career has allowed me to counsel and care for people in ways that exceed real estate financing. Over the last 10 years I realized that I had a deep desire to help others (children and adults). I started as a youth director, then led bible studies, did some speaking engagements and now I do life coaching and mentoring. I believe that my listening skills and empathy for others has set me apart. I am most proud of being able to sit with someone for a short period of time and see that our conversation has truly helped them to feel encouraged. I am excited to help someone find hope in their life. I am excited to be on a journey with others and help them to build a relationship with God.

Getting to where I am today was not easy. It took a lot of work, prayer, counselling (investment in myself), and support from family and friends. I realized that mistakes were lessons and I did not need to beat myself up when mistakes were made. I also realized that no did not mean never but meant not yet.

Lessons I have learned along the way are to take responsibility for my actions, I cannot so it alone, have an accountability partner to help to push you when you feel stuck or want to give up. I also learned that nothing happens overnight so I need to be patient with the journey and there are so many things to learn along the way.

I want people to know that I love God, I am human, I am not perfect. I am authentic and trustworthy. My purpose is to guide and support individuals in finding themselves and planning the next chapter of their lives. I have experienced firsthand the remarkable ways in which God has worked in my life, and I believe that these same miracles are possible for everyone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love Fort Lauderdale. I love the beach so we would definitely hit the beach and have lunch at one of the many restaurants along A1A. I am a foody so whoever is friends with me would know this. Seafood restaurant (Pirate Republic), steak house (Flemmings) yes, yes and yes. We would also do brunch (Beach House). Bonnet House is a nice attraction as well as Riverwalk. Depending on the time they visit, there are some great shows at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. With me and my friends there will always be a day where we invite people over, light the grill and have a good lyme with family and friends.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am a member of the Goal Accelerators Club and I believe that because of the mentorship I received from the founder of this group (Nicole McLaren Campbell) and some of the members I was able to grow my mindset and build my confidence in order to pursue my speaking and coaching career.

I also believe that the support of my family and friends helped me to believe in myself more and realize that I do not have to be perfect to start because in reality perfect does not exist.
