We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Taras and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always loved taking pictures. My husband encouraged me to focus on it further. I started taking photography classes, mentored under other photographers, and did shoots for close family and friends. I knew that if I could do this as my actual job, it would be a dream! Doing what I loved and finding that creative outlet while capturing memories that people would hold onto forever, that was truly special to me. I knew that if I was going to follow my heart with my photography journey, that there was something else that I wanted to do. I wanted a way to help others and give back. I started doing free shoots for cancer patients, mainly children. These have been my favorite shoots I’ve done.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Next month will make 9 years since I did my very first shoot. I’ve seen couples go from dating to having their own families. I’ve seen children grow from birth to now. I’ve captured fighters as they battled cancer. I’ve photographed beautiful souls that now live on through the moments in time that were frozen. I get chosen to capture the most special moments in life, and I’m forever grateful. I have connected with so many people throughout the years. It’s so much more than a job to me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Naples which has a ton of fun things to do! I’ll be honest, I have two young children at home, so I don’t get out a whole lot at this time. I think 5th Ave and the beaches is the obvious answer. Our all time favorite restaurant is Molto Trattoria. It’s authentic Italian food that is amazing every time. Celebration Park is a cool spot with food trucks. I usually take everyone to Angelic Bakery, another local business that never disappoints!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d really have to credit my husband, Kevin, because he was the one that encouraged me to get into photography, pushed me to follow my dream of starting my own business, has built props, helped with shoots…I couldn’t do it without him!
