We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisbet Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisbet, how does your business help the community?
I am a Speech Language Pathologist and my dream has always been helping people wherever I go. As a clinician my most important role is educating families regarding the tough task of raising children in a respectful and supportive environment, specially if those kids have a language disorder, or a pathology that makes them struggle with their milestones and/or development. When I first meet families, I spend long hours, trying to obtain a comprehensive picture of the family dynamics then, I apply my critical thinking to possibly detect what is the root of the problem and then come up with a solution that is real and effective.
With my podcast, that I started last year in November, I try to empower families, providing them guidance, and resources to detect what they can improve in their dynamics when raising children, and most importantly, I validate the fact that new generations are facing new challenges compared to the generations from 10 years ago.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is dedicated to providing clinical services to the pediatric population, My service is based on providing speech/language therapy in a way that is effective, evidence based, empowering and respectful. We love and embrace the differences in our children. Our main goal is to educate families about those differences taking into consideration that equal development in children doesn’t exist.
Our goal is to provide holistic services to our pediatric population, in a way the majority of their medical needs are targeted.
Since we understand that effective communication is the heart of every relationship, we first help parents create strong bonds with their children, even though spoken language is not present.
My practice, is more than a business, it is where a meaningful purpose grows every single time.
The purpose of my practice is helping more and more families learn about language development, which is one of the biggest challenges in our society nowadays. With the creation of my Podcast: BRAIN TALK WITH LIZ, we get to share stories of success, compassion , and commitment so more families can know they are not alone in the daily struggle of neuro-development.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami is a city full of amazing activities to do. Since I am surrounded with patients and their families during the whole week, on the weekends I enjoy outdoor activities like riding horses at a farm, going to key Biscayne and have breakfast at “Artisan” (a every nice Venezuelan restaurant), and having lunch at Finka, where they have a Japanese-Cuban proposal of a lot of traditional dishes, inspired by their creative cuisine.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a heartfelt shout-out to all my incredible patients and their families. They have challenged me in many ways and that has shaped the clinician I am today. Every day, when I meet a new family I get to understand more aspects that I could possibly rethink for other families. In addition, these families have taught me so much about resilience, compassion, and specially the power of NON-VERBAL- COMMUNICATION.
The dedication and strength of those mothers out there inspire me to be a better person, a better clinician and a better professional.
They are the ones responsible for my growth based on the countless lessons I learn every single day.
Together, with the children and their families I get to work with, we celebrate every single milestone.
