We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Arnold and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liz, how does your business help the community?
My goal as an artists is to empower women through my art, encouraging us to embrace our uniqueness. Finding beauty and strength through our individuality and vulnerability. In my paintings I intuitively search for the element of strength in my female subjects with the goal of encouraging us to discover our own potential.
I allow glimpses into my life’s journey through my art. While creating I experience hope, confidence and love. My goal is for people to find these things within themselves through my art.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Creativity has always excited me and has helped me understand myself and others better. My art is a safe space for me to explore a variety of mediums and ultimately making way for freedom as a state of mind while working. It also allows me to paint my favorite subject, people!
I felt most proud when I received a “First Time Exhibitor Award” in 1992 from The Art League of Galveston, my home town. It was my first attempt in mixedmedia photography, a new technique for me that I was reluctant to try in my photographic work. I can recall all the feelings as a young artists, the courage and fear I overcame to exhibit for the first time in a gallery and show a new side of myself. The experience it gave me was a segway to my path as a professional artist and gave me the boldness to explore new ideas.
The lesson I learned along the way of my artistic journey is to be true to yourself. Create what moves you. Create in the midsts of the joys and the struggles in life. This will be your most authentic work.
My work always finds its way to the colorful and to the human nature. It represents itself with emotion, textures, unique layers and love.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in Bermuda for the last 31 years i can say without a doubt the first place we would go to is the beach to visit the crystal clear blue waters and the pink coral sand! After swimming and walking the beach we would relax on the shore, have a swizzle cocktail and talk about life and laugh. Bermuda is a place that slows down and gives you permission to take island life and island time serious. After we take our time from a long day at the beach, we would set out in the evening to one of the islands amazing restaurants.. A little night life after wouldn’t hurt with the best local bands to enjoy.
Bermuda is also the most beautiful island to explore. Learning about Bermuda and what makes up our little island in the sun with its winding streets and colorful homes, alone in the middle of the Atlantic is such an adventure. Not to mention it truly is an artists sanctuary and paradise.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My success as an artist has come from the unconditional support of those I love and are closest to me. They have helped me to grow as an artist and to take myself more seriously than I ever would have on my own. Also, there is the incredible support of those I have never met before in person through the online communit. For me they have become a pillar of strength. Thank you Shoutout Miami for giving me the space for myself and my art to be heard and recognized.
