We had the good fortune of connecting with Liza Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liza, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My balance with work and life has changed a lot in the past 5 years. Before kids, my life revolved around work and new opportunities. However, after having two children, that balance has shifted. My time at work is precious, as is the time with my kids. I have to switch gears when the work ends, and it’s time for pick up. This change has made me more intentional with my time. I give my best attention to my clients when I am with them, and then I get to focus on the rest of the day for the children.
As a parent of young children, balance is something that gets shifted around daily. Every few months there is also a new development at work, but then kids activities change also. Although working out is still a big priority, other things that one may consider to be self care like massage, or time away has decreased. Each person must evaluate the things that are non-negotiable for health, and make decisions from there.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started working as a Registered Dietitian in 2012. After working for a company as a full time employee, I knew I needed to have more flexibility in my day, as well as more movement as it was a desk job.
After about 1.5 years, I left the corporate world and went out on my own. It was challenging at first. I was working at several gyms, personal training, teaching fitness classes, and taking on nutrition clients. I worked weekends, late and early hours, but it was part of the process.
I knew I could truly help people, and that is what kept me going. I set myself apart from other coaches because I truly care about the client, their goals, and where they are in life. I take time to look at the entire person, their sleep, their food, their stressors, and their environment. We work on a holistic, and whole body approach together .

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would of course bring them to the gym to start of the day! I currently work at Grit Miami, but also love to workout at Peak360. My family and I love being outdoors, so we frequently visit Pinecrest Gardens, Fairchild Gardens and many of the playgrounds in our neighborhood.
We love a little smoothie shop that is close to us called Raw South, so we could stop there for lunch. Lastly, I would take them to the beach. We love visiting Crandon Park and Bill Baggs.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In my personal training career, I had a mentor that taught me a lot about movement, and how to properly coach others. For that, I will always have a deep appreciation for.
I also made many great connections in the nutrition world through the International Society of Sports Nutrition. I worked alongside Dr. Jose Antonio, and that greatly opened up doors for me in the sports nutrient world.
I have worked in various gyms and offices through out my career, but through all of these changes but husband has always been supportive of my work, and that is the biggest support factor for me.
