Meet Lloyd Comiter | Attorney and President of Mediation Training Academy

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lloyd Comiter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lloyd, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Mediation, and mediation skills, are used in practically everyone’s daily lives. Many people that are familiar with lawsuits and the process of taking a case to trial may know that virtually every case goes to mediation before trial. Mediation provides an opportunity for people who have a dispute to talk about the issues, their interests and concerns and make decisions about the dispute with the assistance of a third person, the mediator. Mediators do not determine who is wrong or right and do not advise the parties how to resolve their dispute. A mediator helps the parties to find solutions that make sense to the parties and helps them resolve their concerns. The parties themselves determine if it would be better or not to come to an agreement. A mediator may be able to assist the parties in their communications.
Generally speaking, mediation is more cost-effective than going to trial. Mediators can help parties in many type situations, such as workplace disputes, insurance claim disputes, condominium and homeowner association disputes, marital discord and numerous other type matters,

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I take pride in working with and training the future generation of mediators. I have trained students, and worked with mediators, in the United States and such other places as Canada, Nigeria and Italy, Once you’re my student you’re always my student and I am a phone call away, an email away or a text message away with any questions or concerns or to simply bounce ideas around. Every student is made to feel welcome in the programs and all questions are answered with respect and in a way that is understood by all. I am most proud to hear from former students and to learn about their successes and involvement in the mediation community,
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week spent in South Florida would include a day or two in the Florida Keys, the Everglades and for those that have never been, a trip to Orlando to visit amusement parks such as Disney World and Universal Studios. Late afternoon sunsets would include a visit to the beach.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A huge shoutout to Elinor Robin who has trained me to become a Florida Supreme Court Certified County Mediator, a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Mediator and a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator. Elinor was also instrumental in my becoming a Primary Trainer in County Mediation, Circuit Mediation and Family Mediation and we have worked together on numerous training programs including elder mediation.
