We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorena Cora and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lorena, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I am the type of person who loves a challenge and I never give up. I always try to help others as much as I can. That is how my business started, by helping a rescue with pet photos so the puppies could get adopted.
I also believe in daily gratitude and affirmations journal. This has influenced me and how I shape my brand and business.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love animals, but especially dogs. Dogs are the most unselfish creatures in the world. They know how to make you happy and are always by your side. Unfortunately, they are not with us our entire lives. As a result, I want to be able to capture our pets in long-lasting photographs that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. I want to capture photos that when the owners see again as wall art in their homes, it makes them laugh because they will remember that moment with their loved dog, cat, etc.
My journey as a professional pet photographer began by helping a rescue with professionally taken photos so their dogs would get adopted. Beautiful photos make a difference and give the pet a higher chance of getting adopted and/or fostered.
Nothing is easy in life and you have to work hard for what you want. My success as a pet photographer has not been a slam dunk. It takes many hours of learning, practicing, investment in equipment, and sometimes tears. But in the end, it is all worth it.
I know we all have good cameras on our phones, but nothing will ever compare to a professional photo. Don’t wait until your furbaby is critically ill to think about having professional photos taken, please.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh boy, this one depends on many factors, including weather. I will take my friend to my favorite spots I use to take photos of pets. We might start in Coconut Grove, Coral Gables to Isla Morada. Eating spots will include Casa Sensei (my all-time favorite), Mister O’s and Kono’s for the best gelato in South Miami.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is a woman who has helped me without expecting anything in return. This person is the successful owner of The Pretty Nomad, Danielle Gaudreau. She loves animals in general and is involved in many charity organizations dedicated to helping out pets. In addition, Danielle is a very successful businesswoman who has always lent her hand to anyone specially to help other women.
