Meet Louisa Wells

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Louisa Wells again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Louisa, thanks for joining us again. Just to level set a bit for folks who may have missed our last interview together, can you briefly introduce yourself?
Louisa Wells is a photographer based in New York City. From a young age, she was encouraged to try a wide variety of art mediums; including dancing, painting, and singing, learning that beauty comes from myriad places around us. This appreciation for beauty is reflected in her photography style. The way she captures her subjects (and herself through self portraits) is simply to invoke joy and awe and exude an elegance already found within the subject. In addition, in 2020 she ran a monthly print newsletter entitled “Belonging” that explored topics of race, culture and art through a photographic lens, all under the umbrella question: what does it mean to belong? As a photographer and art director she is known for capturing the beauty and elegance of her subjects. Her work focuses on revealing quiet confidence and the warmth of human connection, using movement and color to bring each frame to life.

Great, so let’s jump into an update on what you have been up to since we last spoke. What can you share with us?
These days, my creative work and life feel exciting. Last year, I took a three-month mini sabbatical in Copenhagen—an incredible experience that left me feeling deeply inspired and eager to push my creative boundaries. Since April 2024, I’ve been freelancing with several new brands as both a photographer and an art director. This year, my focus is on getting more of my editorial work published while continuing to create meaningful work with like-minded creatives.

We also want to give folks a chance to get to know you a bit better so we’ve prepared a fun lightning round of questions. Ready?

What do you want people to remember about you and your brand? What are some of things that you feel are most important, unique, special, etc?
We often hear about the importance of differentiating ourselves as a brand or creative—especially as solopreneurs or those who frequently work alone. However, I recently realized that this might look different than I initially thought.
One of the greatest compliments I love receiving when working with others is how they feel on set. More than just producing great work or accomplishing the day’s goals (which, to me, should be a given), I want people to feel seen and known. Everyone has value, and sharing that sense of love and recognition with others is incredibly important to me.
