We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucia Sastre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lucia, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
In a world that moves at a million miles an hour, the best thing you can do your brand and personal development is to never ever stop learning. Even when I started my own marketing company, I always knew it would eventually transition and change in time. Staying stagnant is the biggest mistake brands can make. The ability to be adaptable and open to change is even more important now considering our new normal and the way users consume information. Beyond that, we are always evolving and always looking for the next best thing. Brands need to be prepared to react quickly to these changes and cater to a consumer needs. The best way to do this is to predict trends and think into the future. With my team, every month we conduct an exercise that lets everyone construct scenarios on upcoming trends based on facts, research, intuition and more. This allows us to be prepared with different outcomes may those scenarios happen. It’s also a great way to bind imagination, intuition and hard facts.
What should our readers know about your business?
I always knew I would eventually own a business. I’m far too ambitious and curious to stay in one place too long. Owning a business gives you a constant challenge; a thrill that nothing else can match. Was it hard to get here? YES! Work experience on its own won’t do it. There needs to be drive, passion, determination and did I say passion? haha. You can’t do anything without that. That passion is what makes you go the extra mile; it makes you work those extra hours and it makes you sacrifice instant gratification and it makes you do the job of 7 people in one day. All for a dream you have been wanting to make a reality. A dream, that’s where it starts. I have been working in Marketing for as long as I can remember. I started as a Marketing Specialist more than 10 years ago at the Cleveland Clinic and it all grew from there. I worked for global brands mainly in the health and fitness field like Jillian Michaels and Zumba. I loved every minute of it. Until, my dream kept poking at me from every angle. You see, when I set my mind to something, I can’t forget it. It’s a blessing and curse. I need to see it through. About a year ago (Yes, at the start of the pandemic), I decided to finally make my dream a reality. I started taking freelance clients and establishing my Marketing Company. It all started very innocently until It grew significantly and I know I needed to re-brand. And then, Alpas Marketing was born. The word Alpas means to set free or let loose (something The Power of Now taught me). I didn’t want to do traditional Marketing. I wanted to do Marketing with a purpose. I wanted to create conscious Marketing that spoke to people in an inspirational way. The time of senseless ads and click bait is over. People want to feel something even if it’s through a screen. They want to buy what they believe in; What speaks to them in more than just a monetary value. This is the time for change. We are seeing change everywhere (social, political, personal). Marketing needs to mirror the way the world changes. If we stay behind, we lose, and worse yet, we never evolve. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well my motto is “work hard, play hard” so when I go out in the city, I like to indulge, especially when it comes to food. Some of my favorite places include authentic cuisines such as Indian, Moroccan and Italian. My favorite Indian restaurant is called Zaika and it’s a pretty easy drive right off US-1 in North Miami. The owners are from Mumbai and the food is amazing. I also love enjoying a good veggie burger at KUSH and a healthy avocado toast at Love Life Cafe. Don’t forget to try the carrot cake! Planta in South Beach is also amazing if you’re vegan or vegetarian. Their selection of dishes are beautifully crafted and perfect for date night or a girl’s night out. Lastly, I love enjoying a good glass of wine at Graziano’s or Novecento. My work demands that I spend a lot of time indoors so I try to get a good dose of nature whenever I have a chance. I love to hike at the Oleta River State Park, take a walk down the Holly wood boardwalk and have a picnic at the Spanish Monastery in North Miami. The architecture there is beautiful and worth the drive and ticket. If you’re into farmer’s markets then you have to visit the Yellow Green Farmer’s Market in Hollywood.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
You are right, I didn’t get here by my sole doing. I spent a lot of time soul searching in books, people, travels and much more. I did, however, find one book particularly helpful. It was a gift my Dad gave me at the time because I was going through some personal turmoil. Needless to say, my Dad is a very spiritual man and a positive force in my life. The book is called The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I actually found out it’s a pretty popular book since a lot of people who I discuss it with seem to already know it. Anyhow, the book is centered around living in the moment or the now. I know it may sound cliche, but this book has a way of bringing reasoning and logic to something spiritual and almost mystical. It shows and explains actual ways to stay present without drifting off the past or future (which is something I’m often guilty of). If you’re looking to find peace in this hectic world or calm your mind from racing thoughts, this book provides results and as a good marketer and business owner, that’s what matters.
