We had the good fortune of connecting with Luis Méndez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an electrical engineer and studied at the Universidad de los Andes in Merida, Venezuela. My journey in teaching English began about eight years ago, while I was pursuing my engineering studies. It was not until four years ago that I became a dedicated English teacher, focusing on personalized instruction for Latin American communities living in the US and other countries.

This transition inspired me to establish my own English academy, registered in Texas as Math’s English Academy. Today, we are a vibrant community of teachers, students and collaborators, all committed to closing gaps in English language education.

What sets me apart is my ability to combine engineering principles with teaching. My background allows me to creatively address challenges and introduce innovative ideas, especially leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance our students’ learning experiences.

We are about to launch our new website, which aims to transform the English learning process for our students.

As a Venezuelan living in Venezuela, I want the world to recognize that, despite any borders, growth is possible everywhere. My journey has taught me the importance of perseverance, problem solving and the power of ideas. I believe that with determination and creativity we can overcome any obstacle.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a part of a digital Academy we can be nomads teaching and taking classes from everywhere; connecting time in nature, so if my best friend comes to visit us , I would take her to beautiful and relaxing places, like rivers and mountains. Enjoy hiking, the fresh air and breathtaking views.

Besides nature, I am passionate about Mexican food and historical museums. Exploring local history is always fun. Some mornings would be perfect for relaxing with a good cup of coffee while taking that week trip throughout Math’s English Academy.

I think this mix of outdoor activities, good food and cultural experiences would be unforgettable.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I just want to give a huge shoutout to everyone who has supported me along the way. Your encouragement means the world to me!

A special thanks to my awesome team at Math’s English Academy, especially Diana Garcia, our Project Manager, who has been amazing throughout this process. And to all the teachers and students who are part of this journey—thank you for your energy and dedication! You all make this experience so rewarding.
