We had the good fortune of connecting with Luna Scar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Luna, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
As a woman in the music industry, the most important factor behind my success is my ability to be independent. I learned how to produce music by myself when I was 13 and later realized it was the best decision I ever made for my career. This skill set has not only given me complete creative freedom and control, but has also freed me from the idea of depending on others to get ahead. The idea of independence and making that attainable drives me forward because I can stay authentic to my message and not rely on a man behind me. I can pave my own path on my own terms and that is what leads me to be the most fruitful and successful version of myself.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My music is meant to immortalize the glitches in my mind and hopefully, provide some sort of comfort for the listener. There is no other reason why I make music, no other reason that is as fulfilling. It may sound melancholic but I am here today because of my mental health struggles. Not only is it what inspires most of my lyrics but my music is the respite from my hurt. The idea of helping someone struggling through depression like me is what motivates me to push through my own hardships. This definitely wasn’t easy because the lines between personal and professional become very blurry in art. You have to be willing to be completely vulnerable to achieve what I’m setting out. I just want the world to destigmatise mental health problems and I hope my candor can be a pioneer for that.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love South Florida, particularly for the sun. There is something for very serene and hypnotizing about the sunlight leaking through the palm leaves so it is no surprise my go to is the beach. It isn’t anything too out of the ordinary but it encapsulates that Miami feeling of youth and color. Everything else can flow with the city; I like to keep it simple. One non-negotiable is a trip to Publix and Pubsub. You gotta experience that staple for the culture.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this to my best friend, Rajaa. She is my rock, number one supporter, and the person I never hesitate to share my art with. Her encouragement and love really is what pushes me forward and makes me feel excited to create during those moments when I feel lost. She gifted me my first piano when we were 13 that I wrote my very first song on it. She was quite literally the catalyst to my artwork. To my beautiful best friend and soulmate, thank you for being in my life and for inspiring me to work hard.
