We had the good fortune of connecting with Mackenzie DeVito and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mackenzie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Just get plant based food to the people for the planet

What should our readers know about your business?
No Bones Beach Club is a 100% female owned and operated vegan food company founded in Seattle, WA in 2014. From humble origins in a pop-up tent to internationally recognized brick-and-mortar restaurants, No Bones made the ultimate pandemic pivot by transitioning to food service solutions for restaurants, delis, grocery stores and offices. Gluten free, soy free, plant-based bites with island-inspired sauces are ready to brighten up frozen aisles and dining menus by bringing ethical, sustainable and totally rad flavor to hungry folks everywhere! I have only worked in restaurants my entire life. I understand what chefs are going through. Anyone with a fat marketing budget can walk into a restaurant and try to sell them the hottest “plant based protein” but I have been in their shoes… as an owner, a line cook, a chef and so on… marketing firms don’t get that… they just have money. My Naked Cauliflower Wing is the only product in the market that starts with fresh cauliflower. Our super craunchy, proprietary breading is the best out there and everyone can enjoy it because it’s free of all major allergens.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting either of my homes, (Chicago and Seattle) I always want to get on the water. In Seattle, I love the argosy locks tour that goes through the only saltwater to freshwater locks in the US. If I’m having friends visit in Chicago, we would definitely do the Chicago River Architecture Tour… followed up by drinks at three dots and a dash and dinner at my favorite woman owned restaurant in Chicago, Casa Yari.

After our boat ride through the Ballard locks, we would have a drink at Ray’s Boathouse and then proceed to Stoneburner restaurant in Old Ballard for the best pizza this side of the boot.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
