We had the good fortune of connecting with Madame Récamier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Madame, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
In the end, my business is my music. So the idea was basically always there. It came from a dream I always had, to make songs and become an artist. I always projected myself as an independent artist and I chose to manage my career this way. When I first started I didn´t see it as a buisness, I saw it as “doing what I love”. I still feel that way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I grew up going to many different schools because we moved around a lot. So I learned to socialize pretty quickly and I always involved myself in musical and artistic activities. I also grew up watching a lot of Spanish musical movies because my grandfather and my great grandfather where film producers back in the 50s 60s & 70s. I also worked as a backup singer and guitarist for many years with a well known Mexican mainstream pop artist and learned all bout touring, promo, radio shows, concerts, logistics, managements and labels, because I was a spectator of this world. I also studied at a music university music engineer and production.

All of this gave me tools to realize I could take this direction and start my career on my own. I remember “myspace” was starting off when I recorded my first tracks, and I uploaded them through this platform.

Its definitely not easy, but when you´re doing something you love, it just becomes a part of you. It doesn’t feel like a hard job. I’ve always been excited about this journey and I plan to take it with me for many years to come. I still take music lessons or acting lessons, even marketing, I read books about it, have conversations, listen to podcasts and learn form the whole industry. I absorb and try to use this knowledge every day.

The most important lesson is to maintain your strength. Also, to not compare your craft to others. Its very hard to keep going when you feel “everyone is making it but me”… Those feelings come and go, we as artist must learn to accept our timelines and nurture our art. Another important lessons is to always take care of the legal end of your work. Never let that slip. have access to every work you do legally and money-wise.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It really depends on what is going on that weekend and what month of the year it is. But if it where September, maybe Id take my friends out to garibaldi where all the mariachis are and we can have some tequilas and sing some classic Mexican music. Then we can go get some tacos and maybe visit a bar in Roma or Condesa where a good band might be playing. I guess my plans would involve music definitely.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to all my musical friends in Mexico City. We have built an amazing community joining all of our talents together and helping each other out. Wether its musically or business related. It keeps growing and we grow together.
