We had the good fortune of connecting with Maicol Osorio and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maicol, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
At first, I started using photography as a creative outlet since my IT work had become unchallenging and mundane. I wanted to bring a bit of creativity into my life. Then I saw Ryan’s Parker work and was inspired by his work. I met Peter Hurley through Ryan Parker and joined the crew a year later. As time progressed, I decided it was either now or never. I sold my house in Deltona, FL, came down to West Palm Beach to take Peter Hurley’s Intensive and Intensified course, and decided to start my business. It was either now or never.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I love about what Peter has helped me create is that I can immediately connect with people. When I speak with them about their headshots, I can engage them and make them feel at ease. Though I love when they see their images and say wow, that’s me when they love their image, which provides me with fuel to keep moving forward.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start by meeting her at her favorite hotel in Miami, Fontainebleau Beach, for breakfast. We are early risers, so this would be at 8 AM. Head over to Lincoln Road for some casual shopping site seeing, grab lunch at no other than Lincoln Eatery (since we are always craving different things), and then head over to Bayside Marketplace for some simple 360 actions and walk around. Head back to the hotel to freshen up and head over to the design district for some walk around to build up the appetite for dinner, which would be at El Tiesto Cafe Miami, and then head to Wynwood for some night fun by bar hopping, just a few maybe start at Astra and end up in Oasis.
Sunday, we would wake up late at 9 AM, have breakfast, lay by the pool at the Fontainebleau for a bit, shower, and get dressed to have a light lunch over at the Standard for some lunch at Cafe Standard. Once down, head down to Brickell to enjoy the sites and shopping. Head back to refresh at the hotel to spend an evening in no other than Calle Ocho. Of course, dinner would be at La Taverna Calle 8 and then walk around Calle Ocho.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Peter Hurley and the Headshot Crew. Peter inspires everyone in the Crew to challenge themselves to run a business and encourages us to improve our work daily. He helps us think differently and grow as individuals, and through us, he grows himself. However, the most significant contribution that Peter has given us is the Crew. There are 1800 of us worldwide, and we work together to help each other grow. Peter gives us the tools, but the Crew works together to help lift each other up. The best way I can explain it is Peter is the Flash, and we are the Flash family. Peter runs ahead, challenging himself and us, pathing the path, and we run behind him, reaching to catch him, stumbling, falling, but getting up and continuing to run.
