We had the good fortune of connecting with Mairim Neves and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mairim, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My family of four includes two teenagers, my son is attending business at University in Canada, and my daughter is graduating High School this year.
Between my husband and I we balanced our careers and our lives as immigrants in Canada since 2008.
I persuaded my engineering career while wearing so many hats, as hockey mom, soccer mom, cheerleader mom, dance mom, driving kids all around town and managing school activities, sports, as well as working in my career..
Also, aside from being an engineer and a mom, I finished a program in public speaking and leadership and volunteered in many activities, chairing volunteer campaigns at my workplace.
Having the opportunity to volunteer and mentor for many years lead me to start Mujeres Omega.
Mujeres Omega is a non-profit organization constantly striving to create a supportive community with a focus on providing opportunities for women for personal growth through training, networking, and thoughtful conversations. We recognize that each woman is unique and has great potential.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Mechanical Engineer graduated in Venezuela, my experience and career is one the engineering design field, but I also have experience as site engineer in Venezuela and Canada for over 20 years.
Mechanical Engineering is a field men dominated, but that have not been an issue for me to develop my career, balancing work and having two kids and a house is being challenging but also very rewarding over the years.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Florida! I have family in Miami and Orlando. Miami is one of my favourite cities when visiting many friends there.
I love the +58 gourmet cafe in Doral. Miami Beach is stunning.
I love the vibe in downtown Doral and also visiting the restaurants at the mall.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Mujeres Omega is formed by a team, between myself and Genesis we lead this organization, and we both deserve this recognition in an equal way.
