We had the good fortune of connecting with Malesha and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Malesha, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Vacations! I truly enjoy traveling to various countries where I can experience different cultures first hand. I always look forward to trying (the country’s) local cuisine, seeing their main attractions, and trying their spas; I love a good massage.
On occasion, I also have the opportunity to spend time with family and close friends while on these trips where a lot of our interactions include constant laughter and productive conversations. I truly cherish these moments.
For me taking a break from life’s routine is sometimes necessary and after a good vacation I return energized, refreshed and ready to take on the world.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Revenue Assurance Professional by day and an Entrepreneur 24/7. Let me just say the balancing act is not easy. However I am resilient, and as long as I truly set my mind to something I’ll get it done.
My business, Sew Wired specializes in the design and production of wire bras. Our pieces are unique, versatile and can be used for just about any occasion such as carnivals around the world, festivals and themed parties, just to name a few.
Coming out of the pandemic, there was a lot of uncertainty about the direction Sew Wired would take. I am proud to say that we are ending this year much stronger than we started. Reflecting on the past several months, Sew Wired now has a larger client base and we have checked some major goals off of our list. We were able to:
-Launch our website, where clients can now shop online
-Design and produce a costume titled ‘Euphoria’ for Tobago Carnival 2022 with Iconic Mas
-Launch our 2023 Trinidad Carnival Monday Wear Collection
-Offer wire bra technique courses
-Prepare our ‘Ready to Wear’ line which launches in January 2023
-Collaborate with a US based skincare company, Odageco to launch our Body Luminizer which was released in November 2022
The entrepreneurship journey can be challenging at times but it is definitely rewarding. Consistency and prayer have gotten me through thus far. I’ve also gotten into the practice of completing small tasks daily that feed into bigger goals.
I am so proud of all the strides Sew Wired has made, and I am excited to see what the future holds.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ok so I would definitely recommend visiting Trinidad around Carnival time… which is February 20th & 21st 2023 (wink).
Our Carnival consists of a 2 day street parade preceded by multiple fêtes (parties).
On the agenda will definitely be an all-inclusive fête where they can enjoy unlimited drinks and local food accompanied by sweet Soca music and live performances by local and regional artistes. I would ensure they have a J’ouvert experience which typically starts at 4:00 a.m. and includes paint, powder, water trucks, music, drinks and unlimited vibes.
Of course, we will participate in the parade of the bands wearing a Custom Sew Wired Monday Wear piece on Carnival Monday and full costume with feathered backpack and all the bells and whistles on Carnival Tuesday. The Trinidad Carnival experience is euphoric!
After which, I would take them to our sister isle Tobago (which is approximately 20 minutes away by plane) for a slower pace where they can enjoy the beautiful beaches and waterfalls. They must experience the Buccoo Reef & Nylon Pool while in Tobago. The Nylon pool is a metre-deep crystal clear swimming pool in the middle of the sea that is located a short distance from Buccoo Reef. They are both accessible by boat.
I would ensure they try our local cuisine; doubles, roti, pelau with coleslaw, curry crab with dumplings and bake & shark while relaxing on Maracas Beach.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my fiancé Kevin, who has supported me on this entrepreneurial journey. He has taken up an active role in Sew Wired, for which I am eternally grateful.
I would also like to shoutout to my clients, friends and family members who have shown support to Sew Wired along the way 🙂
