We had the good fortune of connecting with Manning Sumner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Manning, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business was driven by the realization that I could do things differently. After years of working as a personal trainer and traveling from gym to gym around the country with clients, I noticed a pattern — these gyms lacked energy and inspiration, they were all the same. For me, it wasn’t just about opening a gym; I wanted to create a space that motivated people, where fitness was not just a task but a lifestyle and a culture. It was about shaking up the industry, creating a movement that prioritized community, all while pushing people to be the best version of themselves. That’s how LEGACY came to life. It was about turning my passion for fitness into something bigger, something that would leave a lasting impact.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart is my relentless pursuit of excellence and my belief in the “No Days Off” philosophy. My journey hasn’t been easy, from career-ending injuries to the challenges of building a business from the ground up in a competitive market like Miami. But those challenges taught me resilience, grit, and the value of community. I’m proud of how LEGACY has grown into more than just a gym—it’s a family, a movement. Our Partner Interval Training (PIT) system and our focus on community make us stand out, changing the way a traditional workout is done, making it fun and interactive, while maximizing results. Lessons I’ve learned along the way – perseverance, adaptability, and never compromising on the vision. What I want the world to know is that LEGACY isn’t just about physical fitness, it’s about mental strength, overcoming obstacles, and building something that lasts and makes a long term, positive impact on people’s lives. That NO DAYS OFF can be applied to everything we face in life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Of course, we’d have to kick off each day at LEGACY — a workout, followed by a sauna and cold plunge session to get the energy going. After that, we’d head to Soho Beach House to have breakfast with a view right on the beach. For dinner, a few of my favorite spots are Cote, Dirty French and Pubbelly, and I’m really looking forward to Sunny’s Steakhouse reopening — that place is a must. If the HEAT are in season, we’d absolutely catch a game at Kaseya Center. It’s always a great time, and seeing NO DAYS OFF Premium Water as the Official Premium Water of the Miami HEAT and Kaseya Center adds a personal touch to the whole experience. For live music and drinks, Lagniappe, Ball & Chain, Gramps and Bar Nancy would be some of the go-to places. All of these places have different vibes, but each one captures the essence of Miami in its own way, giving a well-rounded feel of the city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The success of LEGACY and NO DAYS OFF is definitely not a solo effort. I’ve been fortunate to have had support and guidance from some incredible people throughout my journey. My family has been a huge source of strength and inspiration, especially my wife Fee, without her unconditional support I could not do all that I am doing. My brother Payton and his wife Christie completely bought into the vision from day one and have added value in all areas of the business. Also, deserving of a shout out – my “teamily” at LEGACY and NO DAYS OFF. They are the backbone of our success, and their dedication to our vision is something I am grateful for.
