We had the good fortune of connecting with Marc Kamel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marc, what do you attribute your success to?
For me, there’s a few things that must remain consistent in order to have success. Passion is the first one. It is what led me to starting my own business in the industry I am in, and it is what keeps me motivated every day. The 2nd factor is a mix of branding, and customer service. The name Travel With Marc was chosen because there is a much more personal, and valuable offer when booking with us. You have access to our expertise, help, and added value from start to finish. For those who join group vacations, a series of events are organized leading to a vacation, often resulting in an even better trip, and friendships that last a lifetime. Everything we do is branded. We brand our events, our apparel, our gifts, we give big names to our cruise vacations, we even have a local hockey team! When I started in the business, I simply offered consulting services under my name like most people do, but my business had seen a 480% increase in sales in the year following the addition of the ”Travel With Marc” brand. Since then, there has been an approximate 300% increase every year. So all in all, the branding and marketing was a huge key, but it would not have brought these results without the passion and the customer service.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What differs with me is that booking with us is an experience. It is a personal service, rather than a sale. When I get a call from a client looking to perhaps spend his yearly saving on a trip of a lifetime, I take it seriously, more seriously than if it was my own trip! They are guaranteed to receive exceptional service and added value. Another unique aspect is the event planning that I also organize within the business. When joining a group vacation, a series of events will be hosted in the year prior to the trip, resulting in a tight group, added excitement, and very strong friendships, topped with draws, contests, incentives and much more. We keep the main event for last, the cruise of a lifetime!

Looking back, what I am the most proud of, is the fact that I have finished first in an entire part of the country in sales. When I started years ago, it was more of a hobby to help out friends and family. The rise was slow at the beginning. So in hindsight, I am very proud of some of the sales accomplishments, but more importantly, I am proud of the amount of clients, who are all friends of Travel With Marc, who count on me today for the next big event that will make them smile.

In terms of challenges, I would say my ”go big or go home” marketing practices have been a challenge that I had to overcome in the past. And that’s because the second you brand an event with a big name, make apparel, ads, contests and so on, you are making a statement that it is going to be a big, successful event, and it is already too late to fail. Going big has its own risks and caused a lot of stress in the early stages of my career, but with success comes assurance, and today the reputation and the demand for these kinds of experiences make it much easier and funner to jump right into these challenges!

As to lessons, I would say that one thing I learnt through business, through sports, and life in general, is that nothing is ever guaranteed. Just when you think something positive is about to happen for sure, you might get comfortable and take your foot off of the gas pedal. It is never a good idea. Always keep pushing and doing the things that will make you succeed.

What do I want the world to know about me or my story? Well, always follow your passion! Life is too short to be unhappy at work and do something you do not like. Always believe in your goals. Trust your instinct, and go for it! Nothing is stronger than passion, and therefore nothing will stop you from achieving what you want if the heart is at the right place.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My father. Ultimately, he is responsible for the passion I hold today. He is the one that brought me and the rest of our family on cruises yearly, from the age of 4. After falling in love with the cruise ships, I knew from a very young age that I wanted to work in the industry one day. At just 8 years old, I would tell myself that one day, I will bring all my friends on board. In elementary school, I would hold presentations about cruise vacations, to convince and show classmates how great of a vacation it was. As a teenager, my father and I would introduce so many people to cruising, people who gave it a try for the first time and who are frequent cruisers today, having been on over 20 of them! Without his love and support early on, I would have never discovered this passion of mine.
