We had the good fortune of connecting with marcus stokes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi marcus, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My balance has gotten better, at times it gets hectic especially when you dedicate certain seasons to the business. What helps is having people around you that understand your vision, keep you grounded, and continue to be a positive influence through the ups and downs.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Dj Ayoo originally from Brooklyn, New York located in Daytona Beach, FL. I have been a disc jockey since 2011. Being able to read any type of crowd while blending many styles of music together. keeps any event full of energy. Also having a musical background, I’m able to hear music differently thus creating unique transitions. From where i started to now was a complete journey from being booked once a month to weekly events and sometimes 2 to 3 events a day its a blessing. It wasn’t easy and it still isn’t easy, but it makes the grind more rewarding. Its a very strategic mental game because you can become overwhelmed with different challenges that may come up but having a strong foundation and a stern inner will allowed me to overcome a lot of things. Few things I have learned is that have that always have that contract ready, business cards on deck, and most importantly have fun. I will always continue to grow but not be greedy and also be in a position to position others because everybody will eat.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely hit Flyers for some wings and Gringos Locos for tacos. Hit some theme parks like Universal and Bush Gardens. Check out the beach in Daytona. Head over to Ponce Inlet hit some jet skis and parasailing. Most certainly go to any event that I’m djing lol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my beautiful daughters Brooklyn and Ryleigh they provided the drive, love, and motivation behind my success. Its one thing to do things for yourself but when you have people depending on you, your ‘WHY’ becomes magnified. They will always keep me going. Also shoutout to my parents, at first they didn’t fully understand but were always supportive and big shoutout to the #shopopen fam.
