We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria C. Avila and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria C., what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When starting my own business the thought process behind it was simply always wanting to be my own boss and have the ability to create my own schedule.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My brand MCA Makeup & Co. is inspired not only by my initials but also for my love and obsession for makeup and its ability to help any woman achieve the confidence they seek when standing in front of a crowd or camera with the power of makeup. I have made it my purpose in this industry to try and set myself aside by enhancing my clients natural beauty. For the past 10+ years I have learned to listen to my clients wants and needs when doing their makeup. When you are able to enhance someones beauty / confidence you have no idea what you are able to be part of. One of my recent accomplishments was being apart of extremely talented Michelle Dempsey’s Book cover photoshoot with well known photograher Jeffery Salter. Seeing your work on a book that will be in the hands of many is a new and exciting feeling.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
oh bestie you are in for a treat lol.

Wynwood for a stroll around to look at the art and have a bite for lunch at the taco spot, night spot would def. be Mayami for amazing drinks and food.
Pool day at strawberry moon and why not lunch there too.
baoli is for great dinner and dancing.
Day brunch at Joia Beach and dinner at the Deck at island gardens.
can’t for get to go to sea spice for brunch, lunch or dinner.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When thinking of the support, mentorship, love and encouragement I’ve received in this journey; the only people that come to mind is my family. They have never failed to push me in the right direction and motivate me to accomplish all that I set my mind too. The aspirations to becoming the best version of myself stems from knowing my parents left their lives behind for a better future when migrating to the United States.
