We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Diehn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria, how do you think about risk?
I think risk taking is the one thing you need to do in order to level up with your business. I don’t think there can be success without taking risks. The first risk most Yoga Teachers/ Wellness Entrepreneurs take is leaving their 9 to 5. For a lot of people this starts of with scarcity though and they look for a side job to “pay the bills”. I’ve done this myself and I’ve seen it so often here in Mallorca. What most people don’t realize is that this kills the spirit. Working in the wellness industry you need to vibrate high in order to attract and help people. You need to go all in and live your passion. And you need to believe that living your passion will not only pay the bills but bring abundance in your life. Whenever my business took a leap I have made investments prior to this. I invested in my own education with more trainings and qualifications, or in rebranding or taking a financial risk by renting Villas for my Trainings and Retreats without knowing how good they will sell and if there will be travel restrictions. I offered my first Yin Yoga Teacher Training in the midst of Covid where the risk was obviously high not many would want to or be able to travel. I was fully aware of that risk and of renting a high class Finca for that time and I was definitely scared. I got rewarded though and the training was not only sold out I actually had a full waitlist as well. After that I took more risks and expanded my training and retreat offerings, making Villa reservations for the whole year. I never do this easily and always look out for signs from the universe that it has my back. Taking risks can be scary, but for me it has always been worth it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am most exited about the Yin Yoga Teacher Trainings and the Women’s Selfcare retreats I offer. I feel they are the masterpiece of my work. My big passion is Yin Yoga. It lights up my soul to share the wisdom of Yin yoga with my students and see how they start to embody the Yin aspects of life. If there’s something we need in this world it’s the softness of Yin. I’ve been an Entrepreneur now for 6 years and it was definitely not an easy road. I had lots of self-doubt whether I’d be good enough and also struggled always making decisions by myself. I used to work in the corporate business world before, where you would literally always call in a meeting if you were unsure about something. This is obviously completely different when self employed. Every decision needs to be made by me, every wording, every investment, every pricing and calculation. I overcame this obstacles by investing in coaches and mentors and also reaching out to friends in similar positions. The lessons I have learned are that boundaries need to be established immediately when starting off a business and that not every client is a match. I do let people go if it doesn’t feel aligned with what I am standing for. If someone can’t accept my boundaries, booking conditions or prices it’s not my client. I feel that I also owe this to my other clients. Alignment is everything for me.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Shoutout goes to the Business Mentors I worked with over the years, who always encouraged me to keep going when I was in doubt, to some amazing women I met while joining an advanced Yoga Teacher Training in Costa Rica, that inspired me to offer trainings myself, and to Bex Tyrer from Freedom through Movement for all the inspiring Women work she does.
