We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Margiyeva and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maria, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I am aerial acrobat. Every time I perform, certain risk is a part of my job. Even if practicing makes risks coming almost to zero, but it is never zero risk. “The biggest risk is not taking any risk.”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a part of peforming arts world. I am proud what I was able to transform my sport career into artistic career. Rhythmic Gymnastics is a sport for young girls and teens. It was certain emptiness when I finished with the trainings. Performing art was the new passion that totaly filled that gap of emptiness. I had pretty intense years when I was studying in college physycal education/coaching in the morning, and going to dance academy in the afternoons and evenings. Same like I had intense years like in my childhood doing gymnastics and training up to 8+ hours in daily basis in some periods of sport career. But this mix of gymnastics background together with dance background is what brought me to high professional level like an artist. Being an artist has many challenges. Body and body coordination challenges, creativity challenges, also economical challenges because there is no economic stability like for a person who works in the office. The questions I asked to myself: Can I do this?
Will I be able to learn this?
Can I practice one more hour than I did yesterday?
Am I brave enough to create my own performance and bring it to the audience?
Will it be interesting to watch?
Can I afford the life by having performing job as a main job?
The most important lesson is what we need to fight for the things we love to do. Because having a job that is also a passion – it worth to fight for it.
I love an entertainment and I want the world to know what make people happy and make them forgot about every day routine and problems, it is what artists we are living for. The exchange of energy I have with the people during my performances and emotional satisfaction at the end of any performace, it totally compensate the risks I am taking and body exhaustion of physical effort.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would love to talk about Florida in United States. I feel totally in love with this staate. Our imagination about USA being in Europe are skyrockets, modern cities. But whole America, and here I am talking about Florida has an incredibly beautiful nature, very well perserved. It is an inmense state with so much to see and explore. Our 10 days trip will start from Miami city, Brickell Neiborhood. Day 1: Brickell Neighborhood. Walking in waterfront, enjoying the Biscayne Bay views; exploring the modern architecture of this neighbourhood as I was impressed with beauty of some skyrockets; one of the best places to do the shopping in Miami.
Day 2: Going to Miami beach. South Pointe beach is one of my favorite places to spend the day. Amazing beach itself with colorful lifeguard towers to explore along the beach. My best friend would be a flying drone passionate like me. South Pointe beach is an open territory for drone lovers. The drone views are incredible from there. There are plenty of restaurants to eat in that part of Miami Beach. And to finish the day to watch the sunset from South Pointe Park.
Day 3: Key Biskayne. Starting from visiting Cape Florida state park : Cape Florida Lighthouse, Cape Florida beach, have a lunch in Boaters Grill in No Name harbour. In the afternoon spending time in Crandon Park. Incredibly huge park with an amazing beach where it is also an amazing place to fly the drone. Return to Miami in sunset time. Drive in Miami Airport direction from Key Biskayne it is a fantastic experience.
Day 4: Driving to Space Coast from Miami with the stops in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. Final destination Cape Canaveral.
Day 5: Watch the SpaceX rocket launch from SpaceX Launch viewing site. Enjoying rest of the day in Cocoa Beach.
Day 6: Moving from East Coast to Gulf of Mexico West Coast in early morning. Arriving to Sanibel and Captiva islands in the afternoon. More than half of these islands are dedicated to wildlife refuges and nature preserves. Home of 230 types of birds, 250 types of shells and 50 species of native fish. The place to disconnect from any stress we can have. Sunsets are incredibly beautiful from Blind Pass beach in Sanibel. Take the Blind Pass to walking cross to Captiva island.
Day 7: Naples. Naples bay, Old Naples with shops and restaurants, Naples Beach and enjoy sunset in Naples Fishing Pier.
Day 8: Driving to Upper Florida Keys. It is a very picturesque driving from mainland to the Keys. First stop Islamorada. Postcard Inn is a great place to stay. Enjoy sunset in the beach of Founders park.
Day 9: Moving to Central Keys. Stopping in Anne’s beach, Fiesta beach and arriving to Marathon. Sombrero beach is a fantastic place to spend the afternoon and watch the sunset.
Day 10: Going to Lower Keys. Stop in Big Pine Key to watch the deers, Bahia Honda State park. Final destination Key West. With a lot of fun, fantastic restaurants to est and great entertainment.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout first of all to my brother. The person who always support me in all steps I took in my life. Starting from childhood. I was seriosly involved in sport (rhythmic gymnastics), many times I needed to jump the school lessons. Thanks to my brother and his explanation of some school subjects, like mathematics for example, I always was between 3 first students in my class, sometimes without go to classes for whole month. Being between leaders in any activity we are doing, brings us very important self confidence. I will always thank to my brother for the time he dedicated to helping me in my studies, sacrificing the time he could spend with his friends having fan. Same help and support I still have till nowaday. It is the person who alwaays have time for me, I can always be sure what I am never alone in front of the most difficult problem life can eventuly bring to me.
