We had the good fortune of connecting with Marian Paternina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marian, how do you think about risk?
I believe that taking risks is what has led me to where I am now in my professional career. I believe that the search for a solution to a problem will always contain a risk factor. Creativity must be fed to give way to making the right decisions, As a designer and now also as an artist, from lettering to the world of murals, I get with my favorite passion: the implementation of ideas that allow me to experience my artistic world and offer innovative solutions.
One day somebody asked me if I was capable of conceptualizing the decoration of a restaurant, I decided to take the risk of trying it. That work was the seed of many others that have led me a little more to the professional but above all to the artist that I am today.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have tools in the digital and physical field, I believe that this dynamic together makes my work unique. I have knowledge of the implementation of different materials as well as: design, branding and illustration. I find myself polishing my voice, allowing me to get out of the conceptualization guidelines a bit, recreating the artist, my latest works have allowed me to get out of the box, it has not been easy, but I trust my instinct, each challenge or task is part of my path, blessed Miami has allowed me to reinvent myself, in this city so diverse and rich. I want my brand to be reflected beyond the artist, giving importance to the message, creating, honoring that, enjoying the practice, nature inspires me and everything it teaches us. I believe that we owe ourselves to the message that we deliver beyond the personal ego that we may incur with our work.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Undoubtedly I would tell you about the sports I do, one of my favorite places would be Amelia Earth Park since here is the Wakeboard park where I connect with nature and move while practicing it, something that I particularly love to do, I consider that physical activity has led me down the path of inspiration, we could also go to Okeeheelee Park where there is another park to practice. I know several in the state of Florida and in other states, since the sport really inspired my art brand @holo.wai we would probably eat and have fun probably near the beach. Definitely my favorite parts of the city, its skies, the sunrises on the beach and the sunsets in the wakepark. and my house. my patio, my special place, where my first mural is located.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
