We had the good fortune of connecting with Marianna Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marianna, how do you think about risk?
Have you ever stopped yourself from chasing a dream because of fear? I have, and I bet you have too. But here’s the truth: the greatest success stories come from those willing to step out of their comfort zones. Sure, taking risks is scary—what if you fail? What will people say? But without taking the leap, we’re left with nothing but fear and a burning question: What if?
What if that business idea could have been the next big thing? What if I had actually succeeded? We can’t let the fear of failure hold us back. It’s true in our personal lives (where we battle insecurities and seek validation) and equally so in our professional lives.
Take my story, for example. I have a background in business administration with an emphasis on marketing, but now I work as a content creator in the beauty, fashion, and lifestyle space. For almost two years, I’ve been growing my social media community, working with brands I once thought were just a dream. When I started, it wasn’t easy. Being a content creator felt more like a fantasy than a reality, but deep down, I always knew I belonged in this digital space. I love being in front of the camera and behind it—yes, I’m that friend who records and photographs everything. And more than that, I wanted to empower women with content that made them feel confident, whether through makeup tips or a killer outfit that goes beyond surface beauty.
But, like most people, I let fear creep in. I would get inspired by a new product or technique and think, I’ll make a video later. But later never came, and I’d procrastinate out of fear—fear of judgment, fear of failing. New Year’s Eve rolled around, and I decided 2023 was the year I’d stop doubting myself. I made a promise to take the risk, dive headfirst into content creation, and follow my passion regardless of the outcome. What’s the worst that could happen? I fail? At least I’d know I gave it my best shot.
When 2023 started, things started to fall into place. I went viral on my College last semester’s when I was traveling back and forth between Barranquilla and Bogotá every week for my school classes meanwhile I was sharing beauty and fashion tips. Of course, my content gained attention, and with it came both the praise and the hate, but also, an incredible growth in followers and engagement. That one viral moment was the push I needed. I committed to posting a daily TikTok, being daily active on Instagram, and staying consistent. With time the effort has been rewarded and so many brands started believing in me and what I share.
Now, I’ve moved to Miami with my boyfriend, and once again, I’m facing a new challenge—adjusting to a new algorithm and audience in a country where not many people know me. It’s tough, and sometimes the fear of failure still sneaks in. But you know what? The risk is always worth it, and I trust that my work will take me where I want to go.
In moments of doubt, I remind myself of this: Be brave, believe in yourself, work for it, and you’ll achieve it.
So, here’s your sign. That project you’ve been dreaming of? The one you’re afraid to start? Take the risk. Believe in yourself. When you’re doing what you love, your energy becomes contagious, and those around you will start to believe in you too.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a content creator of fashion, beauty and lifestyle my art is to convey a message that goes beyond something physical or something that looks “pretty” I like that people not only women who watch my videos feel good and most importantly learn things that will make them feel more empowered in their day to day, either because you feel insecure with your hair and I made you a tutorial on how you can do a blow out easy and cute so you do not continue your day frustrated by that discomfort that we all have for something.
I feel that what makes me different is my authenticity and who I am as a person, the digital world especially in networks is overloaded but I consider that what makes you special is obviously what you transmit but more than that, the way you express yourself to people and how you genuinely are. I have had to face many challenges as I mentioned in the first question, however it is part of the journey and I really feel lucky to have worked with great brands like Collen Rothschild Beauty, Pretty Little Thing, OakBerry, MercerLabs in NYC, among many Colombian brands, etc.
What I am most excited about is the future and all that awaits me as I aspire to continue growing with my social media. It has been a work of much dedication, perseverance and patience but myself and life has shown me that results come with effort in any kind of work. Something I would like people to know about my personal brand is that it represents who I am as a person, a young Colombian woman of 23 years old passionate about the art of fashion and beauty
who is charismatic, outgoing, cheerful and sincere.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend would be coming, the places I would definitely take her to would be; Pura Vida for matcha and a delicious breakfast, Design District and Brickell City Center for shopping and photos. The must-visit restaurants would be; Casa tua (Miami Beach), Zuma or Gekko for exquisite sushi, Mila which I love, Mandolin the same day in Design District, Kiki on the river which is a must, Casa Neos, Lagnappie for an afternoon and finally my favorite for dinner Carbone. For drinks I would take her to Socialista, Swan or Sugar and for partying I would take her to Wynwood for something more Latin or to E11even or Liv. For the beach I would take her to the Keys or if it’s something more local maybe Miami beach.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom the most amazing woman in the world, my boyfriend who always believes in me , my stepdad the most smart man in the universe, my dad who is my hero and my lovely sisters.
