We had the good fortune of connecting with MaRICHka Shkuro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MaRICHka, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Your life changes dramatically when you look directly to the eyes of death. I did see horror when Russia started a war in Ukraine. I have understood – Life is too short, you should always do what makes You happy and rises your self esteem. Thats is my main rules in life.
I have been talented since i was a child, always took part in many international Art exhibitions, studied Art in the best collage of London, but kept building my professional career in other spheres where i did reach a big success.
Since the war have started i lost everything, and i have decided to make it my carrer not just a hobby as it was always before.
Being an artist is a very hard and joyful path at the same time. Hard- because you have to believe in yourself even when no one does. Joyful because this is true happiness of doing what you love.
In todays world you must be 10in1 to be an independent successful Artist: a painter, an investor, a manager, a blogger, an influencer, a self promoter, a sales agent, a good speaker, a philosopher. Being a good artist is not enough, you should be persistent, hard working and have a message that you want to share with the universe.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What do u want the world to know about you and your story?
I believe that art should spread LOVE, BEAUTY and a GOOD ENERGY to this World.
God have created us in the likeness of himself. He has created everything perfectly and pleasant to an eye of mankind, we should follow His example.
We spend much of our lives seeing without observing. Art makes you stop the moment and observe, think about something deep within you.
Thats my message, pause the moment, enjoy the life, do what you love to do, life is too short to waste it.
When you face the most hard moment in your life, only by doing what you love can save you and bring you back to life.
Please tell us more about your art.
I mix abstract and figurative at the same time, i live to experiment.
When I create, I am not aware of what I am doing. I take the brush and paints and express my emotions and feelings. I work primary in acrylic and black light UV- reactive paints, using pallet knives, brushes and my own hands. Switching between visible and UV light, my work reveals unseen worlds beyond the reality of everyday perception, it might allow a momentary retreat from daily life. I like to experiment and use bright colors. Colors dominate me and have huge impact on the emotional state and perception. I know no greater power then color, it is the most important instrument of psychological action.
Series “The Palms” saved me from depression caused by the War in Ukraine. I ran to Miami with Mother. Psychically I was in the paradise but my soul was bleeding in Kiev under the bombs. I could sit for hours and watch palm trees. As the meditation they saved me and distracted me from the cruel news I was faced every day. My soul been wounded, but the wound is the place where light enters you.
Series of paintings “Ultraviolet” glow at night. There are two worlds – during the day, you get stroked by color and at night you enter another world of darkness. But light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it. Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness of this world. I am finding light within the darkness is where miracles arise. In the midst of darkness light persists. Though my soul may set in darkness it will rise in perfect light.
How did you get to where you are today professionally?
Its all about not giving up and being a fighter. If you have a dream fight for it. You should have a discipline, focus and self motivation. Its not about how many times you got rejected or you fell down, it is about how many times you stand up and keep on going.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I travel a lot and live in different places, Kiev, Miami, Cannes and Vienna. Every city is beautiful and have great places to visit.
My passion is islands. There is one island St.Honorat next to Cannes, it has a monastery where 21 monks live all their life and a 10 century chapel. I stay there for 3-7 days, nature, pray and silence. This is my favorite place, where i always find peace in my soul. Nature and God heals and gives you energy. Highly recommend!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
