We had the good fortune of connecting with Marilyn Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marilyn, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Seventeen years ago, I encountered a significant turning point as I approached the beginning of a new and unclear direction in my career as a boudoir photographer. At that moment, I was extremely aware that I was about to take an enormous risk, but I had no inkling of just how profound and far-reaching that risk would be. Taking a leap into the unknown, a realm few had dared to enter, not as I had pictured. I faced an unfamiliar path ahead, filled with possible dangers and societal boundaries, yet the temptation to craft something truly personal and life-changing was too strong to resist.

In those early days, the world of photography was far from welcoming to the intimate, vulnerable art of boudoir. It was a time when the concept was shrouded in misconceptions and stereotypes, and the market for such work was virtually nonexistent. Yet, there was something undeniably compelling about capturing the raw and unfiltered essence of individuals.

In hindsight, I understand that my leap into boudoir photography wasn’t just a business risk, but a significant personal dedication. I had to break free from conventional norms, push the limits of acceptability, and build trust and vulnerability with those I photographed. Even within my circle of friends and family, it was difficult. Each session was a testament to the courage and strength of my clients, and a reminder of the power of self-expression and self-love.

Throughout this journey, I’ve learned that the greatest risks often lead to the most rewarding experiences. The relationships I’ve built, the stories I’ve been fortunate to share, and the changes I’ve seen have truly been remarkable. Taking this path has not only shaped my career but also enriched my understanding of humanity and the profound beauty of vulnerability.

So here are my reflections, born from nearly two decades of navigating the delicate art of boudoir photography. It is a testament to the power of taking risks, of daring to step into the unknown, and of believing in the transformative power of art. I made a deliberate choice to hold dear the personal elements of humanity, resulting in deeper connections with myself and those around me.

As a boudoir photographer, I blend emotions with light, shadows, specific details, and multiple focal points. The special quality of my work is the passionate commitment I give to each component. Whether it’s the gentle play of light accentuating the curves of a subject, the deliberate use of shadows to evoke emotion or the thoughtful arrangement of details, every element contributes to a narrative that transcends the surface. I see boudoir photography as a form of self-expression and a joyful celebration of inner strength. I have gained a reputation for not just taking pictures, but for capturing the essence of individuals and telling their stories. I aim to create an environment that encourages people to rediscover their sensuality and embrace their inner power. As a woman and artist, nothing brings me more joy than witnessing the profound impact my photography has on others. Truly, it’s the most fulfilling aspect. Witnessing my clients as they embark on the amazing journey of embracing their newfound strength and beauty brings me immense fulfillment. It’s a striking example of how art can inspire feelings of self-love and empowerment. At its core, my work aims to design an experience that leaves a memorable mark, a visual tale that speaks to the soul.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had to plan a week full of Miami fun for my best friend and I, I’d make sure to make it an unforgettable adventure filled with exciting activities, delicious food, and the vibrant culture that Miami is known for. Our mornings would start with hearty breakfasts at local favorites like La Carreta, Versailles, First Watch, Green Street, and Bistro Café, each offering unique flavors and atmospheres. Our day would consist of basking in the morning sun at the Beach and then exploring Little Havana and Wynwood. Lunches would be at classic spots like Flanigan’s, Sports Grill and Mister 01, where we’d enjoy everything from Special Grilled Wings, Smoked Fish Dip to my favorite pizza (The Star Luca Pizza). Afternoons would see us visiting the mansions in Key Biscayne, then strolling through Wynwood Walls. As the sun set, we’d dine at places like Giorgina’s, Voodoo Bayou, Rusty Pelican, Havana Harry’s, savoring diverse culinary delights.

Evenings would be equally thrilling and yummy, with visits to Ocean Drive to admire the iconic Art Deco architecture. To top off our nights, we’d catch a cabaret show at the luxurious Faena Hotel. Throughout the week, we’d also explore the unique charms of Coconut Grove and enjoy waterfront views while dining. Miami’s diverse culinary landscape and lively cultural scenes would ensure every moment is packed with excitement and unforgettable memories.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
For me, the person who deserves the most recognition is my daughter.

Everything I am and everything I have worked tirelessly to achieve has been for her. She is the heartbeat of my journey as an Intimate Photographer of Woman. She has been my inspiration and motivation from the instant she entered my life. Every photograph I capture, every story I tell, is infused with the love and dreams I have for her.

But my dedication doesn’t end with my daughter. It extends to my mother, my sisters and every woman out there who thinks she can’t achieve her dreams. My work is a testament to the power of resilience, self-belief, and the courage to pursue one’s passions. I want every woman to see that she can shatter glass ceilings, defy expectations, and carve her own path, no matter the obstacles.

So, this shoutout is not just for my daughter but for all the women who dare to dream. To the organizations, mentors, and advocates who champion women’s empowerment… Thank you. Your unwavering support and belief in their potential make all the difference. And to the women themselves, remember that you hold within you the strength and vision to shape your destiny.

In this spirit, I dedicate my work and my achievements to the limitless potential within every woman. Here’s to their dreams, their resilience, and the extraordinary journeys they embark upon.
