We had the good fortune of connecting with Marisa Plotnick Yibirin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marisa, what role has risk played in your life or career?
“Everything is a risk. Not doing anything is a risk. It’s up to you.”

Deciding to pursue my passion for photography has been one of the biggest risks that I have taken in my life. I used to think of risks as something to be feared and avoided, but as my career in photography has grown, so have I. Sometimes the things we fear the most are the things that set us free. As I reflect, every artist takes risks within their own craft. It is in these experiences that we grow. As I have evolved in my photography, it has involved taking many risks over and over again. Over time this has taught me that risks should be welcomed with curiosity and wonder. Without taking risks you may remain the same. It is in those leaps of courage to do or say what feels uncomfortable and scary, that there is something amazing on the other side of comfort and “safe”. Taking risks in my career has transcended into my life by giving me the confidence to accept risks in general with an open mind and less judgement.

Taking risks has played a big role in my career and in my life as well. The more risks I have taken in my photography, the more risks I have been willing to take in my life as well. I can now say that taking risks is necessary to grow in your career and in your personal life. I have taken on things that I would have not been able to experience without taking those risks.
Risk, ultimately is our guide, teacher and a gift. Without these experiences you may never uncover the gifts that reside in you.
Take a risk, a tiny one or a big one and keep on going, fearlessly.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One of the most challenging aspects of being a creator has been accepting myself as an “artist”. The second biggest challenge has been the inevitable creator comparison, self doubt and overcoming the feeling of “am I good enough”. From my experience, it has been with time, patience and lots of self love that has gotten me to a place where I am now able to confidently say, ” I am an artist.”
Getting to this point has not been easy. There have been many moments of nearly giving up, but my passion for photography has prevailed. I feel it is important to have a team of people that support you enough and want to see you succeed. I have had the help and unconditional love from my family and friends that have been pushing me along the way.
My work is eclectic, like me, and I shoot a wide range of subjects. I am a barefoot nature girl and I love to capture nature, landscapes and all things in the outdoors.
My approach to my photography is something that has taken me a long time to develop as it has evolved over time. My unique style is Vintage/Boho with editing that captures the true image instead of trying to change the person. I don’t believe any artist should feel roped in to following a trend and instead should be making their own profile.
Through my photography I have discovered that I have a gift of comforting my subjects and allowing them to feel at ease which allows me to really capture their true spirit and essence. It is important that my photography reflects something back to the viewer.
At this current point in my career I am most excited that I am starting to own my unique brand and I am looking forward to all that I will continue to learn and grow within my artistry.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I was sharing a long weekend with a best friend I would take them to my favorites spots. As a nature lover, I would want to show them the beauty of the Everglades to watch the sunset. It is one of the most beautiful places to see the sunset here in South Florida. The Hollywood Boardwalk is another great place to take a stroll, people watch and grab a bite to eat. For other sight seeing pleasures I would take them to Art district area of Fort Lauderdale, Wynwood in Miami, Worth Ave. and Clematis area in West Palm Beach. I love coffee shops, so I would take them to some of the favorites which goes beyond the coffee – Modern Rose in Deerfield beach or the Alchemist in Wilton Manors.
A night out a bar to get drinks I would suggest Death & Glory, Sourbon, Wine House or the Backyard.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate this Shoutout series to my family and friends who have given me the encouragement and endless support to pursue my dreams.
