We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Marshall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mark, how do you think about risk?
Believing in what you’re saying is crucial when taking risks for success and personal growth. Playing it safe rarely leads to meaningful progress, but I approach decisions with a clear understanding of the potential benefits and drawbacks.
As a musician and artist, putting myself out there can be daunting. It requires vulnerability and a willingness to be seen and judged. However, I believe that believing in my unique perspective and message is crucial when taking risks in the creative process. I embrace risk-taking as a necessary part of my personal and artistic growth.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what sets me apart as a musician is my unique blend of country music with ambient sounds. It took me a long time to build the confidence to be original and true to myself, and to let my vocals be what they are. I’m fueled by nature, and I like to incorporate natural elements into my creative processes.
My upcoming album The Beautiful Sound, set to release on April 9th (Easter Day), explores themes of heartbreak and redemption, which I believe are interconnected. I believe that one can’t come without the other, and I wanted to tell my story in a way that reflects this truth. Ultimately, my story is about heartbreak and redemption, and how they come in intervals and waves like the ocean. My relationship with God is my driving force, and I believe that positive things can come out of dark places, but you have to go through the process.
I’ve played music for years, here and there, in bands and with different producers. It took time and hard work to slowly build up to working with great producers who could take my music to a whole other level.
For me, staying authentic and true to myself is crucial for my brand. As a famous producer once said, “the biggest mistake is to sound like someone else.” The hardest part for me was to let go of trying to sound like others and just be myself. That’s when I developed my own unique sound.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Broadway in Nashville to experience the live music scene.
In Jupiter, we would go to Guanabanas for live music forsure, and to Das Beer Garden in Abacoa for a fun atmosphere with some more music and they do food trucks every so often. The Brewhouse Gallery in Lake Park is also a great spot to check out for more of your acoustic venue setting which is such a great spot to have right in the area.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve been fortunate to have the support of some incredible people on my musical journey. Eddie and Justine in Nashville, Chris Condon, and the team at RCA Studios Studio C played a crucial role in bringing my music to life and helping me take it to the next level. Echo Beach Studios in Jupiter also provided valuable assistance in recording my music and introducing me to Chris.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to have been part of the worship team and community of talented musicians at Calvary Chapel in Jupiter, which has given me the motivation to pursue my passion for music and take risks. I’m appreciative of the guidance, expertise, and support of these amazing people who have helped shape my story.
