We had the good fortune of connecting with Marlor Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marlor, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always knew that I didn’t want to work for anyone else. I always had an entrepreneurial spirit, as a child I would come up with creative ways to make money. I started freelancing while in college to make a couple of extra bucks and from there the business grew itself. I graduated from college and decided to focus on my business full time and take it to the next level.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets my brand apart is that I’m a young woman dressing young women. I know that in order to make your client feel their best you have to know and truly understand the female body. I understand that some women are insecure about certain areas of their body so I’m able to adapt the design and fabric of my garment to accommodate camouflaging those problem areas.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start off with brunch at Phil and Dereks. I love a good mimosa and who could turn down southern cuisine? The club next door is a nice vibe and the lemon drops are my go to libations. Downtown is just a cool vibe on its own. I would ride the scooters around where the clubs are near the dynamo stadium. I’m a fan of the Houston bar/club scene also, some of my favorite ones are heart, bar 5015, the basement so we’d probably end our night at one of those spots.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would dedicate my shout out to the person who inspired me to go into the fashion industry, my aunt Michon. I love you and you live within me. I’d also shout out my family, friends and clients for supporting me through this entire journey.
