We had the good fortune of connecting with Marqus Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marqus, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want people to remember how hard I worked and how I stayed true to myself and dedicated to my dreams while always remaining humble.. I want my legacy to be how I contributed to broadening men’s fashion and guided men in being and feeling confident when they are wearing something by me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets my clothing brand apart from others is that it challenges the standards for men’s fashion by providing options that aren’t always the most “masculine”. I’m most proud that I have stayed true to myself and encouraged people to be themselves and express themselves through clothing I’m always excited for the future and how I evolve as well as seeing others in my clothes. My journey has been all a learning process from day one. I started with a used old machine and watched videos of how to use it and even still I watch videos to learn even more about constructing clothing. I’ve gotten where I am today by simply staying consistent and posting on social media as often as I can. Being honest with my customers and doing everything with integrity has also contributed to where I am. It hasn’t been the easiest to be behind every aspect of my business while it’s been growing. I’m still the one constructing every outfit for each person that orders and it can be overwhelming at times because I’m so hard on myself and want to make sure I get my customers their orders within the time period we agreed to. I’m overcoming by providing myself with a schedule and creating balance, its been going pretty good so far. Lesson that I’ve learned is that it’s important to abide by your policies and to not be so hard on myself when I can’t please everyone. I’m the type to tell someone I’ll rush their orders to make them happy and with time I realized doing that too often can become stressful and take a toll on one person. Making sure people are aware and respect your policies was an important lesson. I want people to know that I never gave up and I won’t stop working on being the best designer I can be. I want people to know that staying humble and consistent does work and even if you aren’t getting all the praise or attention to never stop believing in your dreams and that it’s ok learn and admire others doing what you’re doing. There’s room for everyone to be successful. I want people to know that my brand is here to stay and I appreciate all the support so far and we will never stop evolving so be on the lookout for one of our newest items coming soon “Undisputed Underwear” and more clothing from “Undisputed Designs”.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take my best friend to South Beach. I think South Beach has a chill and fun vibe that makes you just want to relax and enjoy the moment. I’ve enjoyed moments in Wilton Manors on Thursday nights to have drinks and eat chicken wings so that should definitely have to be apart of our itinerary. Friday nights in Fort Lauderdale at The Hub always is a good time with a vibe that makes you just want to let loose and have genuine fun so we would be there as well. Saturday and Sunday would be perfect to go to South Beach and go on the beach and even see a show at The Palace or Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale to have brunch and bar hop. Other than those places I’d like to visit malls like Aventura and shop !
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Everyone that has encouraged my dreams of being a designer deserves credit so that’s the thousands of supporters on Instagram for sure. The people in my life who have made any kind of investment (sewing classes, sewing machines, etc) all will hold a special place in my heart forever and deserve credit as well.
