We had the good fortune of connecting with Martha Tabora and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Martha, what do you attribute your success to?
Well, who doesn’t love Burgers? We do! We are passionate about delivering the best product to fuel our guests, turned Vegan Junkie family. During our research and development phase, we really took the time to educate ourselves in order to create our scratch made superfood loaded patties that are the foundation to our burgers. The real secret is that they’re lovingly handmade in small batches. Our buns are artisanal handmade exclusively for Vegan Junkie from a local baker who imports their flour which is Non-GMO, the toppings are where we really got to have fun with the flavor combinations! Our burgers are meant to be enjoyed, It’s good mood food that leaves you feeling great! Our customers, new and old, understand that and have been SO supportive along our journey, so we thank our community for the amazing response and confirming we made the right choice.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Vegan Junkie is on a mission to set a new tradition for fast food! We are a fast-casual, artisanal burger spot creating the most unique vegan burgers with the freshest, highest quality, locally-sourced ingredients. Our goal is to always offer original, authentic, plant-powered food that is appealing to everybody, regardless of their dietary preferences, while being as sustainable and ethical as possible. We set ourselves apart, as our food is made from scratch with real, natural, soy-free, ingredients such as vegetables, nuts, and grains. We are proud to serve our community the best, most aesthetically pleasing, 100% delicious, 100% nutritious, plant-based cuisine, without sacrifice or compromise. Our innovative menu provides an experience unlike any other, inspired by culture, compassion, and keeping it real! We know that every customer is unique, so we created a menu to match. Vegan Junkies’ serving standard includes a double-stacked, plant-powered superfood patty, fresh toppings, in house made sauces, and artisanal, locally-made bread. Our burgers and creations are built strategically for an enhanced experience — we guarantee you’ll feel the superfood effect of feeling good! Feel free to order from a variety of vegan burger options. We also believe in eating according to your mood and lifestyle, so we decided to make breakfast an all-day thing! We aim to always stay true to ourselves and our purpose as a unique South Florida staple that is so much more than just a burger spot. We strive to keep extending our passion for plant-powered food to all and make meaningful connections along the way. We want to cultivate our love and passion for vegan food, the vegan message, and supporting our local community by offering everything from cruelty-free and locally-sourced food, drinks, and merchandise, to collaborative pop-ups and event catering. We welcome everybody to be a part of the Vegan Junkie family! It’s definitely not easy and we have learned so much on our journey, we don’t see them as problems but opportunities to always elevate ourselves. I got business experience firsthand from my parents as I grew up in their storefront, I also majored in Business after culminating my Culinary degree while working at a couple of Hotels in Honduras as a Food and Beverage Manager. Vegan Junkie has helped set a platform with other locals to change the world through food and that is just so special and motivating everyday to do what you love.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First of all I would take them to the beach, growing up in the coast of Honduras the beach was 10 minutes away from my house, the smell of the ocean is something I cannot live without, reason why I chose south Florida as my home. We are foodies so our hangout spots would definitely have to be at restaurants. As living in Broward we have found new gems that have become favorite spots, some are a road trip. Christopher’s Kitchen a little past West Palm beach, this place serves made from scratch food, soy and gluten free, It’s our number one favorite place. 2nd place is another vendor friend in pompano beach, Fancy Naturals. They serve raw sushi, smoothies, Mystical pies (pizza) and many other delicious dishes with a Caribbean vibe, made from scratch as well. Back to Dade county, we have to mention Chris from Eat at Sunday, he never disappoints. Manna Life Food, Fernanda offers amazing cold press juices and made from scratch meals that are not only delicious but really good for you and last but not least Tacos from Alieneatz, they’re just soo flavorful and good for you. Sweets I have to mention Raw Chef Carla as I am in love with her Raw meals n desserts, we offer her Twix bar at VJB. I would also order Vegan Moon Kitchen gluten free and sugar free Donuts, pistachio and hazelnut being the favorites.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Rico as he is also the co-founder of Vegan Junkie and has been the best partner to have. He understands food, flavor combination and also is great at bringing to life any vision we have for Vegan Junkie. Im very grateful for his support as I couldn’t have done it by myself, he has been on it 200% he is also able to connect with many of our customers and inspired so many to start their own business journey.
