We had the good fortune of connecting with Martina Zabojnikova and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Martina, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am originally from a small town (about 5000 residents) named Bojnice in Slovakia, Central Europe. I spent the summers in Miami when I was 19 and 20, and I permanently relocated when I was almost 22 years old. Growing up in Slovakia was always full of strict rules within my family and the Catholic school I attended. My work experience started at an early age, working in a local ZOO in one of the restaurants. I always had a strong work ethic, and when I moved to the United States, I realized I needed to work much harder, learn the Spanish language, and adapt to the Latin-influenced and now New York-influenced society.
A huge impact on who I am today has been my work experience as a hostess/bartender/server at local South Beach restaurants – Liquor Lounge, Swan, 1 Hotel, and Mila Lounge. All these places are luxury restaurant establishments with high standards for guest services and overall dining experience. These experiences taught me punctuality, responsibility, the ability to read body language, be knowledgeable, and enhance learning skills.
Another important aspect of who I am today is Miami Dade College, where I graduated in Hospitality and Tourism Management. Studying and working a full-time job while using a bicycle as transportation was a great challenge that taught me dedication.
I believe the combination of my work history, education, and adaptation to life in the United States, ultimately becoming a citizen, is what impacted who Martina is in 2023.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whenever I have visitors in Miami, I always try to create an experience of everything Miami has to offer – from daytime lifestyle to nightlife.
For nature gems and a day of relaxation, I recommend visiting the most beautiful garden – Pinecrest Garden. You can also enjoy walking around Brickell Key and on the Venetian Causeway. Watching the most beautiful sunset is possible from the beach in Key Biscayne, where there’s easy parking, it’s not too crowded, and dogs are welcome, with food trucks around.
Some outdoor activities I love to do and experience with my loved ones include paddleboarding around Sunset Islands, jet-skiing to cruise around Brickell, and taking a sunset cruise on a boat. I also enjoy biking and camping in Oleta River Park. Additionally, I like to skate around Ocean Drive with ubiquitous palm trees and beautiful people around.
Sunday is the best to spend in South Point Park – lots of yoga, drummers, picnics and people rejuvenating before new week.
When it comes to favorite restaurants, I highly recommend The Champagne Bar at Four Seasons, Mandolin Aegean Bistro, The Klaw, Mila, and 1 Hotel Rooftop (they serve the best vegan burger in town!). I also love the Buena Vista area, and lately, my favorite spot is The Bazaar in Coconut Grove, which offers live music, a beautiful ambiance, and a friendly approach. To support local markets, I like to go to Coconut Grove Market or Mimo Area Market. If you’re a fan of Branzino, the best place to try it is at Cipriani Downtown.
My favorite ambiance can be found at Faena Hotel, Little Hen, and Abba.
I am a huge fun of all rooftop bars/lounges.
In my spare time, I enjoy supporting my friends who curate events.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a huge shout out to my dear friend and mindset coach, Milica Ristic. She is a person who has only the best intentions in her heart to help others. Since we became friends, she has shown me many different ways how I can take control over all aspects of my life. With her help, I created a “Life Script” that provided guidance for my health, lifestyle, relationships, and, most importantly, my business. My life has changed since Milica entered my life, and I cannot imagine living without her anymore. I love you Mili!
Another person who has had a huge impact on me is Chelsea Ruth, the owner of Sera Sera Social Club. She took me under her wings and gave me so many opportunities to grow. Because of her, my creativity has skyrocketed. I realized that I am capable of much more than I thought, and I have added floral arrangements and tablescaping to Maza Events services since I met her. Chelsea genuinely makes everyone feel special. I love you Chelsea!
