We had the good fortune of connecting with Marvette Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marvette, what are you inspired by?
Everyday I say to myself “everyone will know my name because of good success”. Daily I strive to use my business to create good success, do good deeds, have good relationships and make good money. Knowing that the story told about me is one of good success inspires me.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m a full time entrepreneur along with my husband, Cairo and right now we have 2 businesses.
Mitchell Logistics, LLC transports freight. We specialize in two areas expedited shipping and start up businesses who need freight transport.
C&D Catering is where soul food meets the grill. Our menu is based around Cairo’s famous brisket. We are currently expanding into the food truck industry and we are excited.
A little bit about how I got started. I knew at 17 that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I earned a BA degree with a concentration in Small Business Management & Entrepreneurship. Then I joined, what I considered, the best military branch for leadership the Marines. After completing my military assignment I started working as a civilian and quickly realized that life was not for me. I started a few side hustles just to feed my entrepreneurial spirit.
That way I felt that my dream was not dead. Fast forward to 2019 I was laid off during the COVID pandemic and decided to take the leap into full entrepreneurship. I haven’t regretted that leap yet. I love working for myself on my terms.
I’m most proud of setting the example for others in the transportation and food industries. Brisket is one of the hardest pieces of meat to cook and Cairo has mastered it. Now we are able to launch a food truck centered around Brisket. When we started Mitchell Logistics, LLC even though there are many in this industry very few people where trying to do it at the level I wanted to be so I didn’t have much guidance on what to do, whom to ask or where to go for help. Yet still I’m doing it and now people are asking me to help them get started.
Was it easy No? LOL, I’m an African American Female from Camp Branch, SC (small community in the low country of South Carolina) who joined the Marines not many things that I’ve have been through were easy. The best way I deal with challenges is by believing in a spiritual being bigger than myself and knowing myself and seeking self improvement.
I’ve learned along the way that I determine what progress & success looks like for me. When I was growing up my mother wouldn’t let us say the word can’t because when you believe you can’t you won’t. Keep going you can do it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are based in Simpsonville, SC some of my favorite spots in the city are
Food – C&D Catering, Willy Taco, Justin’s, Low Country Shrimper and Firebirds
Places – Falls Park downtown Greenville, downtown Simpsonville, Simpsonville Farmers Markets
Entertainment – GGz, Top Golf, Comedy Zone, shopping and any little hole in the wall spot because they always have good music, fun people and good food.
TBH we will probably end up having a cook out at my house and inviting some people over because that’s what we do. LOL
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my Shoutout to my team. My husband Cairo and my children Yasmine & CJ. They hype me up everyday. If it wasn’t for their support and sacrifices I would have struggled to keep going. They have stepped up in every way possible for me to be able to live out my dream for our family. I’m grateful to them and share every bit of success with them.
