We had the good fortune of connecting with Marzena Kosicka and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marzena, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Creating every day makes me the happiest person. It opens all the senses, it gives me energy and more ideas.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I grew up in Poland, surrounded by a creative family. My father was a ceramist, often bringing home his handmade pieces or a block of clay to create something new. My childhood was all about exploring nature in the countryside…there was an immense feeling of freedom growing up.

At the age of 18 we moved to Canada where I began my career in fashion industry.
I have worked as a photographer and a videographer for over 20 years. Living in major fashion capitols around the world and traveling extensively on photoshoots to many different locations gave me the exposure to art from various cultures and places.
In the last few years I have also been shooting a documentary style work for humanitarian and nonprofit organizations.

This exposure to different cultures and art has been an inspiration for me to start creating something independent and unrelated to fashion.
For instance, my latest SEABIRD series represents the joy of freedom… joy of simply spreading the wings and gliding through life.
I love experimenting and working with various medium, creating something unexpected through mistakes…such as simple tear in a canvas.

Transitioning from commercial photography to art, has definitely had few challenges. It was an unknown territory for me, which involved finding a new niche, new clients, galleries and spaces to show my work.
However I find it interesting meeting new people who enjoy art of all styles.

In a way creating is a form of meditation for me, a connection to my inner joy and fulfillment. I am learning every day that there are no limitation to self expression through art.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami offers a variety of multicultural experiences and excitements. I would definitely take my friend for a day trip to the keys..Islamorada is less then two hours drive. The Cleats in Key Biscayne is a great place to watch a sunset and have a drink and a small bite by the water. Coconut Grove and its European ambience lined with charming cafes and restaurants makes a perfect stop for a Sunday lunch. Endless beaches, turquoise water and Art Deco architecture of South Beach is a way to spend a day in the sun. Wynwood Walls for a unique graffiti art experience. Calle Ocho for best cafe con leche. Upper buena vista is a great escape within Miami from a bustling city. a Bohemian oasis for artisans and merchants. With the the ocean all around miami offers many exciting water activities at various beaches and marinas.
