We had the good fortune of connecting with Mason Medina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mason, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea of my podcast from having a podcasting class in college.
The class taught us what it takes to start a podcast and the what steps we would take in order to grow the podcast.
I chose to do a sports podcast with my roommate and it was so fun.
I’ve always wanted to pursue a career in sports. So this was one way I could scratch that itch.
After the class was over I wanted to continue podcasting. And I’ve been doing it every since.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Right now I am a Medical Salesman while also recording episodes of The Breakdown on the side. Doing both of these is a lot of work. Sometimes I do have to focus on my profession more because it is more demanding. However, that does not stop me from also talking about my love of sports. I am still young in my years therefore I am still growing as a salesman. What life and sales has taught me is that you can’t quit.
Not everyone is going to like what you are selling and not everyone is going to listen to what you are talking about, but there will be the people who do purchase what you sell and those who do listen to your show. Therefore, you better make it the best show that you have ever recorded in your life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m not the craziest guy out there. I do like the simple things. However if I was hanging out with my best friend we would have to first see a sporting event. Either baseball, football, basketball. We would have to go golfing.
And finally we would have to go bowling and watch some movies.
That would be an awesome week.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shoutout first my family and my wife for encouraging me to pursue sports.
My parents both watched sports with me growing up and helped me fall in love with it.
I want to shoutout my friends Jordan, Lucas, and Logan who have been podcasting with me. Without them the podcast would be a lot harder. So their willingness to talk sports with me has been a blessing.
I also want to shoutout two professors that I had in College. First, Professor Bob Dickson who was my podcasting professor and really helped me understand that “I”can be a podcaster… Anyone can be a podcaster and nobody should be scared to try something new. Celebrities aren’t the only one who can have podcasts.
Last I’d like to shoutout my other Professor Curt Sandoval. He was my multimedia storytelling professor. He works for ABC7 in LA in the sports department. He really encouraged me by saying that if I worked hard at it and took it serious that I could find a career in sports.
All of these people have had an impact on me and I I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
