We had the good fortune of connecting with Matias Daroch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matias, what is the most important factor behind your success?
There isn’t just one factor. First, a good team culture focused on results and, not how many hours were worked, empowering decisions, flexibility, and collaboration. On that same page, we aim for integrity, transparency, and responsiveness, telling clients what they need to hear, not just what they want to hear, and they trust us because we communicate clearly and solve challenges proactively, and we are willing to hear and learn from them as well.
Lastly, we are a niche firm doing contemporary style residential projects with developers who look to design homes that are a balance between the user’s well-being and the investor’s satisfaction through flexible and future-proof design.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I believe our value comes from our niche. By being focused on one style of project and type of client, we’ve gained a deep knowledge of the pains of developers, users, and the permitting process. Unlike traditional firms, we think like developers. We have partnered with a general contractor and a broker, forming a development group that enables us to create our pipeline of projects.

Our proudest moment was obtaining the necessary approvals for a project we were hugely proud of aesthetically one month sooner than expected and the construction estimate within the budget range.

We started the business small. As a one-person team that grew little by little with more minor, affordable single-family homes. Slowly, I gained experience, built relationships, and learned the ins and outs of the South Florida real estate market. By 2020, I had launched MIK Architecture, and since then, we’ve evolved into a firm designing 5,000 to 13,000 sq. ft. luxury homes. Our next step is to expand into luxury waterfront projects.

We’ve faced a number of challenges during the journey. The permitting process in South Florida is notoriously long and complex, and market conditions constantly shift. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that adaptability and persistence are everything, and we overcame these hurdles by forming strong partnerships, refining our processes, and being transparent and communicating what is happening with our clients/partners.

We would love the world to know that we don’t just look to design lovely homes. We look to design projects that think of the investor and enhance the lifestyle of its users while staying flexible. We look to create freedom for all the lives revolving around the project.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
What I like most about Miami is its diversity. It’s a trick question, as I would recommend different places to different people. Are they coming with kids, newlyweds, or a group of friends? Are they here in winter or during the summer? (Yes, it matters in Miami). If I had to choose one place that can try to satisfy everyone, it would be Miami Beach, You can have a quick drink in South Beach, relax at the beach, walk through Miami Beach’s 16-mile Boardwalk, and stop in one or two restaurants along the way.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
AGD Developers is one our main strategic partners in the journey to become an architecture firm that believes in the user’s well-being and the investor’s satisfaction.
