We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Aniska and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matthew, how do you think about risk?

I think the process of analyzing and taking risks has been most important to my growth in business and  life. Where there is risk – often there is an opportunity. The ability to recognize whether the opportunity is worth the risk starts with self-awareness. To know who I am and what fulfills me is what leads me to proportionally value rewards to their necessary risks. The awareness of my own values dictates each of my decisions each day.

Risk is part of the adventure of life – it’s what makes life interesting & exciting. The amazing thing about risk is, the outcome is either what I desired – or a life lesson. Taking calculated risks is always a win/win situation from my perspective.

What should our readers know about your business?
Having been an entrepreneur since age 8 – I learned the value of contribution. When I would sacrifice my time & energy life always reciprocated through a reward, whether currency or opportunity.

At age 8 I began delivering newspapers until I saved enough money to buy a tractor. With the tractor I started a lawn care business. I continued to grow and start businesses over these past 19 years. Currently, I own and operate a luxury real estate brokerage in Miami and soon will open an insurance agency. These partner companies are branded under the nickname “Nisk”. (Nisk Real Estate – Nisk Insurance) I’ve been so fortunate to build companies which allow me the opportunity to express myself and help others through collaboration. The free market dictates the value of my contributions and I think that’s one of the greatest blessings of living in America.

My entire life I’ve been attracted to entrepreneurship. Again, self-awareness was key to figure out I’m not a good employee because I get bored easily. After I’ve reached a certain level of competence and the opportunity for risk/growth disappear – I find it’s time to venture out and find a new challenge. This seems to be my love for the process rather than any desired outcome.

My only goal is to become better than I was yesterday, whether that means a better friend, son, or businessman.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Wow. I’ve been fortunate to have a few great mentors – life changing mentors. If there’s one person to be thankful for, my brother Steve is the first guy I have to thank. His support and mentorship isn’t based off business, rather his example has helped shape me into a man competent, confident, and discipline enough to live a positive life. I know we’re talking about business in this interview but without a disciplined and healthy lifestyle – none of the businesses would be serving their purpose; which is to grow from the struggles, set an example for those next to me, and serve the people in our communities. The businesses are there to bring purpose to the life of mine and others.

I love the idea that everyone on Earth is part of one big family, we’re all humans. To judge others is ignorant because we’re all trying to figure life out our own way. Each person is different mostly due to their specific environment & circumstances. Fortunately, when i’ve made mistakes in my life my brother Steve didn’t judge me – he believed in me to learn from the mistakes. He trusted me to become a better man, brother, son, & friend.

I think that’s the best thing a friend or mentor can do for a person, trust them to learn from their mistakes. That trust inherently says “I love you” because it shows the individual values the potential of the other despite no guarantee of reciprocity. I’m grateful Steve and a few others have been patient with me over the course of my life. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be patient with theirs.

Thanks for taking the time, it’s been a pleasure chatting.
