We had the good fortune of connecting with Maureen Kohler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maureen, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
The Process is just as Important as the Product.

My mentor told me this over 20 years ago and I practice it today. If a program or event is successful in terms of execution or outcomes, but if relationships were damaged along the way or appropriate recognition wasn’t acknowledged or promises weren’t kept, then the product was not successful. There are many pieces that go into a project, not just the final product and all the pieces are important.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
With a career in non-profit management, the challenges are many, but the rewards are priceless! After volunteering for many years, I had an Ah-Ha moment when I realized that “someone” was leading these organizations I’m volunteering with. I set my sights on a career in non-profit management and the rest is history. Relationships are very important in any industry, but especially in nonprofits. I always say that nonprofit is a tax status, not an excuse. It is a business that should be run with professionalism and impact with a focus on the mission.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living is South Florida there are many different and unique places to explore. Depending on the season, a professional live sporting event would be at the top of the list! There are many places to see and things to do, so some options would be the Sawgrass Mills Mall, Pelican Grande Hotel to take in the view from the rocking chairs on the deck, too many restaurants to mention but definitely those that are not chains, an airboat ride and some sort of cultural outing – a play or concert.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The love and support I received from my son, Jeffrey, has been invaluable to where I am in my life and career. He has cheered me in my professional life and loved me in my role as mom.
