We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Gallagher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I was 18, I was very unhappy and in College. I knew intuitively that I was meant for more. I truly had a major health scare, that was so scary. Yet, it was the universe trying to wake me up. I needed to stop resisting my intuition. I took the chance and left School. I started out by speaking at YMCA’s, Boys & Girl’s clubs and PTA meetings. I built everything from the ground up. I knew my passion was to speak to young adults about mental health. During my time in High School, I struggled with chronic anticipatory anxiety as well as panic attacks. I felt alone with my pain and very insecure. It wasn’t until I sought help, at 16, that I was shown the world of therapy. I can’t even begin to express how therapy changed my life. As a teenager, I never saw a future for myself. It’s odd how in the midst of a hard season, we can’t see past it. I didn’t know how I was going to graduate High School, move out of my parents home or be an adult. I’m proud that I didn’t give up on my mental health and I stuck to daily habits that helped me gain confidence. I am a believer that things happen for a reason, so I feel that God put me through those hardships because he knew I would come out the other side. Currently, I’m 26 and live in Miami Beach. I am so grateful that I had the will power and motivation to believe. I’ve given two TEDx talks, written 4 amazon best sellers and I share my message with young adults everywhere!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I feel that what sets me apart from others is my authentic story. I have been in the struggles with mental health. I know what it is like to be barely getting by mentally. I have walked the walk, so it allows my audience to connect with me more. I am proud of the woman I’ve become. I became the hero I always wanted when I was younger. I am humbled by my success and excited to see how many lives I impact. I’ve been guided by my faith, trust in God and my journey. It hasn’t been easy but I’ve gone through it all with grace. I’ve gotten to where I am, business wise, by my determination. I’ve mentioned this before, but I don’t come from a famous family or a ton of connections. I had to build this whole empire myself. I’ve had to be flexible, adaptable and adjustable. Looking back, it’s been the most rewarding and beautiful experience. I would never change a thing. I’ve overcome my challenges by practicing rituals that help me take my power back. In my industry, so many things change on a daily basis. It can be triggering for someone who is naturally anxious. I’ve developed these rituals that allow me to pause, not react emotionally and focus on what I can control. The biggest lesson that I have learned would be to trust your gut feeling. It’s never wrong and you will thank yourself later when you trust. I want the world to know that I am just getting started! I have big goals and I can’t wait to accomplish them!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite parts of Miami are Brickell, Design District and Sunset Harbor. I love these areas and how diverse they are. It is so fun to explore Miami! Since I am from California, being here is like a dream. I wake up every morning, excited to explore and try all of the amazing restaurants. If my friend were visiting, I would take her to Rosa Sky in Brickell as well as Sugar. Both of them are so fun to go out at night. They are gorgeous rooftop bars that have breathtaking views. I would also take her to the beaches at South Beach, specifically the beach in front of The One Hotel. It’s so relaxing and the warm ocean waters are heavenly. To have some fun, I’d take her to the shops at The Design District, and eat a healthy meal at Pura Vida. It’s a Miami classic! It would be so fun to end the trip with renting some jet ski’s and doing a sunset boat ride down the river!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout my parents! Courtney and Ted, thank you endlessly for your support and love. For the past 8.5 years, you both have stood by me and been my biggest fans. I’m so grateful to have you as my parents. The way that you both have supported me, has shown me how much you love me. While growing up, I always knew that you loved me, yet I never knew just how much until I decided to follow my dreams.

I also want to thank my agents at The Washington Speaker’s Bureau, Gotham Artists, All American Entertainment and Big Speak. Thank you so much for believing in me and my mission.

I am grateful for all of my followers, fans and supporters! Truly, from the bottom of my heart, thank you very much. I would not be who I am without you all. I’m sending all the love you give me, back to you!
