We had the good fortune of connecting with Meghann Fletcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meghann, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think taking risks is a must! In order to grow in life, whether it be mentally, physically or spiritually, you have to take risks in order to level up. Risks get you out of your comfort zone, and if you’re uncomfortable, you WILL grow. Taking risks has helped me so much in my life. For example, when I started college, I was a physical therapy major. One night, I just had a feeling that nursing was the right path for me and I switched my major right then and there and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Nursing has challenged me in every way and I have grown so much because of it. It has taught me how to handle so many human interactions and situations in my life.
Another example of risk taking is when I decided to walk in a runway show for New York Fashion Week. Never in my life did I think I would do something so bold. I had no experience walking runway and barely any in modeling but I said to myself, “you have this opportunity, so go for it!!!”. You never know what will come from the risks you take. Even though I was not the best runway model, I met so many amazing people, I conquered my fears, and it helped to advance my modeling career.
Life is about growing, moving, passion, and purpose. Taking risks is an essential part in achieving success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My profession is nursing and I am currently in school to become a nurse practitioner. Nursing is a huge part of who I am, but it does not define me. What sets me apart from others is that I have strong compassion and love for others. Helping to save lives and making people feel better brings me a feeling of joy and spiritual fulfillment. Nursing is never easy; those two words just do not go together. My nursing program was very difficult and exhausting. I would put in hours and hours of studying in order to do well. I was never a great test taker, so I really had to discipline myself daily in order to learn everything I needed to. Then becoming an actual RN was a whole new challenge. Learning to care for people is an art form. Some people excel at it and some don’t. But the ones that truly excel, are the nurses that make their patients feel loved, heard and beg to have you every shift. I’ve had amazing coworkers and preceptors along the way that made me into an exceptional person. Without them, I would not be where I am today. I have learned so many important lessons from mentors, teachers, patients, and strangers. I have many plans for the future and can’t wait to eventually share them!

There are too many challenges to list throughout my story, so I’ll say this; Every challenge that I have faced was an opportunity to grow, and God has granted me amazing people and a willing heart to move forward and ultimately carry out my purpose.
I want the world to know that nothing comes easy in life, but some things are worth struggling for and others are not. Choose wisely and lean on God to direct your path. Nothing is black and white and you don’t have to feel stuck because life is full of options and experiences! Celebrate every moment!!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my sister and brother-in-law, Andrew and Alexsis Wan. In the past year, they have been such a rock for me in every area of my life. Their encouragement and unbelievable faith in me has driven me to press forward in my life and my purpose here. I would also like to give a shoutout to God; always by my side, leading and guiding my moves. I am nothing without God’s grace and mercy.
