We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Amengual and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
For me, my job has a greater value than just offering an experience, a product. For me, the reward of looking at people while they see they’re pictures, the thought of a family coming together in the future to look at their memories through my work, remembering loved ones that are no longer with us through an image. Tears, smiles, sighs, memories. These are the true signs I long for with my job, this is for me the definition of success. Successfully giving people something to share, to remember, to have forever in their homes. Memories are intangible and my job is to give people something tangible as a keepsake of these moments. This is success for me, this is my passion.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Once I decided I wanted to give profesional photography a try I completely fell in love. I fell in love with people been in front of my camera, of natural moments, of documenting love and most of all of the idea of been part of people’s lives forever through my work. I’m blessed because I do not work once I’m behind the camera. I can say that every time I do a photo shoot I feel more and more in love with what I do. My name is part of my brand and what I like for my clients to know is that there’s always a lot more behind me taking your picture, there’s friendship, there’s a whole experience, there’s years of relationship and been part of each other’s lives. I work for this, for my clients to be as happy with the whole package as possible so they come to me again so I get the honor and opportunity to photograph them again together with their family. I love watching families grow, couples grow together, I love my job!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a nature lover, an outdoors gal. I would definitely find a great quite spot at the beach, probably north near Deerfield beach, I would definitely have rock shrimp from a little place called The Whales Rib (best shrimp ever!) just by the beach and walk around town until the sun goes down. There are tons of places people don’t usually visit in Miami, restaurants hidden from the regular tourist, there’s a place called Reunion in Aventura which is just the kind of place to go grab amazing food and the coolest drinks! Around the area of course there are tons of shopping spots and the beautiful Gulfstream Park for some horse races live. I would take them sailing, fishing, biking, kayaking… so much stuff to do in Miami!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m thankful and blessed for every client that has trusted in me with such important task and responsibility. I’m honored every single time someone trusts me with taking their photograph, every time some opens their door for me and their heart.
