We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Jean and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
First and foremost, Passion and Purpose! As a graphic designer, I’ve always been passionate about visual communication. I wanted to channel this passion into something meaningful. Starting my own business allowed me to align my skills with my purpose: helping businesses convey their messages effectively through design. Also solving problems played a role. Every business faces design challenges—whether it’s creating a compelling logo, designing a website, or developing marketing materials. I saw these challenges as opportunities. By starting my own business, I could directly address these problems and provide tailored solutions.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My passion for helping others has been the motivation guiding me on my entrepreneur journey as a graphic designer. Mel B Blueprints was born because of my desire to see others win and that is the heartbeat of my business. As a graphic designer, I don’t just create visuals. I solve problems, whether it’s a logo that captures a brand’s essence or a website that guides users seamlessly. My empathy fuels my designs. To be honest, the death of my parents sparked a fire in me and pushed me towards my dreams even more. With the support of loved ones who didn’t leave my side during my darkest hours, I was able to get my business off the ground all while experiencing the many transitions of grief and hopelessness. As you can imagine, this was not easy at all, but I kept pushing. I’ve learned that the world keeps spinning even if you want it to stop and you must keep moving with the time. I want people to know that there is hope on the other side, and you can win, but you must never quit.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, to be honest, I’m a foodie, so most of our destinations would include food. Monday would be probably a chill day. Maybe get breakfast or brunch at a nice quiet restaurant. Tuesday would be taco Tuesday and we can go to my favorite taco place here locally. Wednesday will probably be a nice Japanese restaurant. Thursday would probably be the movies or the park to just chill and relax. Friday would probably be a nice formal dinner on the beach somewhere. Saturday would probably be shopping at the mall and grabbing lunch at the mall as well. Sunday would be early morning church service and soul food dinner at my home or a nice brunch. For the most part, it will be up to my best friend and what she would like to do, but there are plenty of things to do here in Miami.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to the memory of my parents who’ve both passed away unexpectedly recently. In the quiet corners of my grieving heart, where memories linger like cherished melodies, my parents reside. Their legacy isn’t just etched in sepia-toned photographs; it’s woven into the very fabric of my success story. They both deserves the credit and recognition for my resilience and ability to adapt and keep moving no matter the circumstances.
