We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Mastrangelo- Diaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Art has always been an outlet/therapy for me… As much as I love to create for myself, I wanted to share that gift with others. After working for an art studio, teaching paint classes, I decided to venture out on my own and start Mobile Masterpieces. It’s a beautiful thing hearing people at the end of class excited they were able to find their inner creativity.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Where I live there’s a lot of competition in the Paint and Sip industry. I think it’s helpful that as a full time professional artist I’m able to think outside the box and move away from the canvas, like I do in my professional work. My classes range from everything to ceramics, canvas, glassware, vinyl records, and wood cut outs. It keeps it interesting for customers ,which corporations like Painting with a Twist don’t offer. Doing the paint and sip classes is a lot of hustle, so can be difficult sometimes finding balance. I wear it feels sometimes like a million different hats lol. The joy on people’s faces though after they’ve created a piece makes all the hard work worth while.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
South Florida there’s so much!! Most weekends we spend paddleboarding, snorkeling, and enjoying time at the sandbar on my good friends boat…. so that would definitely be on the list. We love going to downtown Delray or west palm beach, grabbing happy hour or dinner and listening to live music. Would definitely take them to one of our beautiful beaches as well.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely credit to Saltwater Brewery in Delray Beach. They planted the seed in my head to start doing art classes at their brewery when I was bartending there. Which lead to me creating my business. It eventually grew to other breweries and businesses which I’m also grateful for their support over the years.
