We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Tran and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was probably the same as everyone else, clueless and scared. I’m still going through the process of getting everything up and running, but I know that it’s something I want to pursue and take more seriously. Google honestly becomes your best friend at this point, especially when you have no clue where to even start with building a business from the ground up. From googling “how to start a business?” to “how to get a business license?” to “how to build your own website?” It’s definitely a difficult road to start off on, but once learning everything you need to establish a business, the next step, in my opinion, is funding it. I want to be taken seriously as a photographer and videographer, so having a legitimate business is the next logical step for me. No matter how you start, just do it and believe it will happen.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
With my art, I like to set myself apart from everyone else because of my jack-of-all-trades can-do attitude. With that said, let me explain a little more about what I mean by that. I feel like everybody in this field of art categorizes themselves in one genre of photography or videography. There’s a whole world of creativity to immerse yourself in, so why put yourself in a box? I’m heavy on this because I personally don’t like being put box where I’m limited to what I can create and do. I like having my box of crayons and being able to use every single color, not only blue. Today, I’m currently not where I want to be professionally, but I know my time will come as long as I believe it will and believe in myself. It’s definitely not easy, especially with social media. Comparing yourself to others and their work can definitely hinder your self-esteem and even your creativity. I learned this the hard way and before realizing it, I found myself on a creative hiatus. I was at a point where I felt burnt out and I couldn’t come up with any new ideas. I was constantly comparing myself to other artists and bringing myself down, and it just got to a point where I had enough and did something about it. Day by day, the creative juices started flowing again and my belief in my dream revived. I want the world to know that no matter how hard and difficult it gets following your passion, as long as you believe in yourself, and your dream, and have a support system you can trust and run to, everything will flow. Everything will be okay. “Get gutless, be a fool, and make your dreams come true.” – @gutlessfools

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The most interesting and exciting people, places, and things to do definitely have to be located in Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, or Miami, Florida. There are so many delicious restaurants, friendly locals, and inspiration everywhere you go in those cities! One of my favorite spots for food definitely has to be Serafina in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It’s a little hole in the wall on the outside, but once you enter, you can either sit inside or sit outside right by the water. They serve the best Italian dishes I’ve ever tasted, besides home cooked of course. I highly recommend going and trying it at least once because those pasta dishes are to die for.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to shout out all of my close friends and family who support me endlessly. Without continuous support and love, I honestly don’t think I’d be where I am today. It would’ve been a way more difficult road to follow down if I didn’t have the support that I do now. All of the encouragement and support to follow my dream definitely pushes me to succeed in everything I plan to achieve. I want to make everyone around me proud, but I especially want to make myself proud. This dream of mine will become a reality and I can’t thank those who love me endlessly enough for always being there for me, showing me love, believing in me, and supporting me through it all.
