We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Valbuena and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I feel outsiders are unaware of the time that goes into making a cake as well as the cost of sid cake (fondant is not cheap).

What should our readers know about your business?
Well, I’m a baker and owner of Baker’s Loot, a bakery based in my house nothing big yet. What sets me apart from others would be being able to offer different types of sweets other than just cake, which makes a dessert table come to life when you have multiple options. In recent times I’m most proud of these chocolate chip cookies I make for an ice cream shop called La Glace, and all-around excited to see what the future holds for me. I wouldn’t be where I am without the help and support of my family and friends (they are my number one fans without a doubt). I most definitely can say it was not easy I’m still shooting for the stars but I know I’ll get there one way or another (I’d love to have a bakery/café something everyone can call home). Every project I’ve done has come with their lessons from improving fondant work to something as simple as what flavors go well together. It’s doesn’t matter where, why, and how you started what matters is what you learned on the journey to get where you are or going don’t let people tell you can’t because you most definitely can.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ocean drive is always fun, for sure would take them to Wynwood I like going to a place called shots for drinks. In Wynwood, there’s a place called 1-800 lucky in their outdoor area they sell Taiyaki ice cream which is so good. Take a field trip to the design district. We can’t forget places like Bayside and Dolphin Mall for some shopping. And the classics like 8th Street having some Cuban food at La Carreta and some coffee in Versailles. Most definitely try to catch a ball game in Marlin stadium. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely would have to my parents, Emily Carrizo owner of B-Diva Nails & Accessories and Jesus Valbuena owner of JV Global.
