We had the good fortune of connecting with Miguel Cairo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miguel, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Without risk, there is no reward! Taking risks has been a major part of my journey, both in life and in my career. I once owned a cellphone recycling business that ultimately went belly up, but the experience taught me some of the most important lessons about resilience and growth. It was a tough loss, but without taking that leap, I wouldn’t have gained the insights that have shaped my current success.
When I transitioned to freelancing as a web developer, I took on more work than I probably should have. But that risk allowed me to expand my capabilities and eventually hire help. Today, those risks are what enabled me to grow Unique Web Designer into a thriving business. Taking chances has always been a stepping stone to greater things.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Unique Web Designer is all about creating websites that truly work for our clients—whether it’s increasing sales, driving traffic, or building a brand presence. What sets us apart is the personal touch we bring to every project. We don’t just build websites; we solve problems for businesses, creating solutions to help them reach their goals.
I’m most proud of the impact we’ve had on businesses, from boosting bookings for an airboat tour company to increasing sales for a local restaurant and everything in between. Seeing clients succeed with the websites we design is what excites me the most.
Getting here wasn’t easy. I started as a freelance web developer, often taking on more than I could handle, but I learned a lot along the way. There were definitely challenges, especially with time management and scaling, but I overcame them by gradually building a team and streamlining processes.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned about running a web design company is that the work we do can make a huge difference in people’s lives. It’s not just about helping my employees support their families, but also seeing business owners experience significant growth through our web design and local SEO services. The impact our work has on the local community is truly amazing, and it’s one of the most rewarding aspects of what we do.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know about Unique Web Designer, it’s that we care deeply about our clients’ success. We’re not just another web design company—we’re partners in helping businesses thrive. Our story is one of persistence, learning from failure, and staying committed to excellence in everything we do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Day 1: We’d kick things off in Miami with a visit to South Beach. We’d spend the day soaking up the sun and then grab lunch at Crazy About You, enjoying a waterfront dining experience that entices you to relax and unwind.
Day 2: We’d head to Hollywood Beach for a stroll along the famous Broadwalk, with its unique shops and beachside cafes. After some relaxation, we’d grab a bite at one of the local spots and somehow sneak a visit to 3 Sons Brewery which is a true gem.
Day 3: A visit to Las Olas Beach in Fort Lauderdale would be next. We’d explore the shops and galleries on Las Olas Boulevard and grab dinner at Coconuts, a seafood spot right on the water.
Day 4: For a break from the beach, we’d head over to Little Havana for some Cuban culture. We could spend the day exploring the area, enjoying a classic Cuban meal at Versailles or Palacio de los Jugos, and listening to live music at Ball & Chain—a historic spot with amazing Latin music and awesome cocktails.
Day 5: Time to explore the artistic and cultural side of Miami! We’d visit Wynwood for its incredible street art, stop for lunch at Kush Wynwood, and then explore the Miami Design District for some high-end shopping and design inspiration.
Day 6: Change of pace, we’d relax at Matheson Hammock Park, a beautiful and peaceful spot with walking trails and a scenic view. We could even have a picnic by the water for a low-key relaxing and reenergizing day.
Day 7: Sunday would be the perfect day to take my friend to one of my baseball games at NW 54th and 22nd (Liga Nica). Afterward, we’d celebrate the week with dancing at El Tipico Dominicano, enjoying Bachata, Merengue, and Salsa to cap off a memorable trip.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to my parents, John and Margarita Robinson. They’ve always believed in me and encouraged me to chase my dreams, even when they didn’t fully agree with my methods. Their advice and support have been a constant in my life, and while they weren’t entrepreneurs themselves, they led by example with their work ethic and values.
Additionally, a book that has deeply influenced how I approach life, especially in my 30s, is Happiness by Matthieu Ricard. It reminds me of the importance of focusing on what truly matters, as it’s easy to get lost in the daily grind and miss the bigger picture.
